Add a ladder diagram instruction to a routine

Add a ladder diagram instruction to add functionality to a rung. Add an instruction from the Ladder Editor
Toolbox
. After adding the ladder diagram instruction, enter a tag or value for the instruction. Complete any operands in the instruction by entering a value in each parameter.
Prerequisites
To add a ladder diagram instruction to a routine
  1. In the Ladder Editor
    Toolbox
, select the category of instruction or in
    Search
    in the
    Toolbox
, start typing the name of the instruction to not have to navigate the categories in the
    Toolbox
    .
    TIP: If
    Toolbox
is not visible, on the pane
    bar, select FTDStudioToolboxV1
    Toolbox
    .
  2. Drag an instruction to a rung or branch. Valid drop zones are indicated by FTDStudioValidLDDropLocation.
TIP: A new instruction appears red by default because the instruction does not contain a tag. The instruction is in the error state.
  3. Enter the tag name for the instruction:
    • For a bit instruction, select the header and type the name of the tag.
    • For a box instruction, select each operand that has ? in a parameter and type the tag name or a value in the parameter.
TIP: To create a new tag from the ladder diagram canvas, right-click a tag or red operand that it is in error, select
      Create new tag
, configure the tag parameters, and then select
      Create
      .
  4. Enter values for any parameters in a box instruction as required until the instruction turns blue, indicating that the instruction has no errors.
    TIP:
    ??
in a box instruction parameter indicates an operand that provides a value for the tag above it. Entering a value in a ? parameter writes the value rather than assigning the value to the tag. The ?? parameter below the ? parameter then disappears.
