Configuration Tab 1797-IBN16

Use this tab to configure the 1797-IBN16 FLEX Ex NAMUR digital input module.
TIP: If you selected a Listen-Only communication format when you created the module, this tab is not available.
Parameters
Input Filter Time (ms)
On->Off Off->On
Use this feature to filter-out transients in noisy environments. Select a value (in milliseconds) by which to delay the transition from On to Off or from Off to On. The Input Filter Time values in milliseconds are: 0.25 (default), 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32.
Input Mode
Specifies whether the FaultOrCounter member in the AB:1797_IBN16:I:0 input data type is used for Fault indications on a per channel basis, or is used to display the count of input point 15.
TIP: Regardless of the input mode chosen, the module always internally keeps track of alarms and input point 15 counts. The Input Mode selection only chooses what you wish to be returned from the module and displayed in the FaultOrCounter member.
Counter
Lets you use the FaultOrCounter member of the AB:1797_IBN16:I:0 input data type as a counter. In this mode, the pulses counted by input point 15 are reported in the FaultOrCounter member.
Reset
When the check box is checked and the configuration applied, the counter in the module is reset to zero. The counter does not count until the check box is unchecked and the configuration is applied again.
Enable Filter
When the check box is checked and the configuration applied, the counter input point 15 is filtered with the same filter parameters chosen for the other inputs.
IMPORTANT: The counter filter (Enable Filter) may need to be disabled to prevent the counter from missing high frequency pulses. This feature is available in Counter or Fault Input mode, since the counter filter can be enabled or disabled in either mode, and the counter counts in either mode.
Fault
Lets you use the FaultOrCounter member of the AB:1797_IBN16:I:0 input data type as a fault indication for each channel on the module. In this mode, wire-off and wire-short faults are reported in the FaultOrCounter for each input.
TIP: Fault mode may be selectively enabled or disabled in groups of 4 hardware input points through a bank of Fault Detect switches on the 1797-IBN16 as shown below. These switches are used to enable/disable wire-off and wire-shorted fault detection. If the physical switch on the module is not engaged, even if the Fault Input mode radio button is turned on (to allow FaultOrCounter to indicate Faults) the faults are not reported.
Setting the Fault Detect Switch
A switch, located on the backside of the module, lets you select the action of the module when a fault (wire off or short circuit) is detected. Switch position 1 determines the action for channels 0 through 3, position 2 for channels 4 through 7, position 3 for channels 8 through 11, and position 4 for channels 12 through 15. Set the switch:
  • OFF to disable fault detection for the selected channels
  • ON to enable fault detection for the selected channels.

If:
  • you are online in Program, Remote Program or Remote Run mode and,
  • this controller is the owner controller and,
  • you have changed the module’s configuration in the software,
when you click the Apply or the OK button, the information is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the information to the module (if the module’s connection is not inhibited). If you don’t click Apply, your changes are not sent to the controller.
TIP: The connection to a FLEX I/O module using Rack communication cannot be inhibited. The
Inhibit
check box on the Connection tab is disabled in this case.
