Fault Action Tab - 1794-IJ2, 1794-IJ2I, 1797-IJ2
Use this tab to configure the two "outputs" on the module that are activated under alarm conditions. Outputs on this module (Alarm Outputs) are like switches that are open or closed when alarm conditions you specified on the Alarms tab are met. The outputs can be used to operate an alarm device in the field.
The Fault Mode determines if a fault condition exists when there is a communications fault only, or if any type of fault occurs. The Communication Fault Behavior then determines what to do if a fault condition exists; either hold the state of the outputs, or reset the outputs.
Important: | In order to enable Alarm outputs, the CommFault data type in the AB:1794_IJ2:C:0, AB:1794_IJ2I:C:0, or the AB:1797_IJ2:C:0 configuration module-defined data type must be set to 1. If this data type is set to 0, the module does not enable Alarm outputs. You can enable this data type through the Data Monitor in the Logix Designer application or through the user program. |
Parameters
Fault Mode
Select the way the module’s Safe State data is used to control alarm outputs for communication (Wire Off or Missing Pulse Alarm selected from the Alarms tab) and internal module faults. You can select one of the following values from the drop down list box.
- Communication Fault Only- Communication Fault Behavior is activated by only communications faults.
- Any Fault- Communication Fault Behavior is activated by any failure.
The selection made determines how the Communication Fault Behavior will be used to control alarm outputs for communication faults between the modules in the system and internal module faults.
In order to enable Alarm outputs, the CommFault member in the AB:1794_IJ2:C:0, AB:1794_IJ2I:C:0 or the AB:1797_IJ2:C:0 configuration module-defined data type must be set to 1. If this member is set to 0, the module does not return Alarm outputs. You can enable this member through the Data Monitor in the
Logix Designer
application or through the user program.Communication Fault Behavior
Select the way in which you want the module alarm outputs to respond to communications faults between the modules in the system and internal module faults. The following two choices are available from the drop down list box:
- Reset Outputs- Turns the module outputs off.
- Hold Last Outputs- Retains the module outputs data in their last state.

If:
- you are online in Program, Remote Program or Remote Run mode and,
- this controller is the owner controller and,
- you have changed the module’s configuration in the software,
when you click the Apply or the OK button, the information is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the information to the module (if the module’s connection is not inhibited). If you don’t click Apply or OK, your changes are not sent to the controller.
