Parameters
Type
Displays the module type you have created.
Parent
Displays the parent module through which the generic module is reached. This field is read-only.
Name
Enter the name of the module.
The name must be IEC 1131-3 compliant. This is a required field and must be completed; otherwise you receive an error message when you exit this tab. An error message also appears if a duplicate name is detected, or you enter an invalid character. If you exceed the maximum name length allowed by the software, the extra character(s) are ignored.

Comm Format
Select the type of data being exchanged between the parent and the generic module. Choose from:
- Input Data (INT)
- Data (INT)
Slot
Select the slot number where the module resides in the 1769 backplane. When you create the generic 1769-MODULE, this number defaults to the first available slot position.
TIP:
If you choose a slot number using the arrow keys in this field, you will only be allowed to enter a number up to the maximum number of I/O modules selected on the Virtual Adapter General tab; however, you may manually enter any slot position you like by typing it in this field.
Connection Parameters:
Input Assembly Instance
Produces multi-cast input data. Specify this assembly instance when opening a connection. Valid values range from 1 to 255.
Input Assembly Size
Enter the number of 16-bit input words required for communication with the module. Valid values range from 1 to 148, depending on the module.
Output Assembly Instance
Consumes output data. Valid values range from 1 to 255, depending on the module.
Output Assembly Size
Enter the number of 16-bit output words required to communicate with the module. This value is based on Comm Format:
- For Data, values range from 1 to 248
- For Input/Listen Only, the value must be 0.
Config Assembly Instance
Enter the necessary configuration attributes for the I/O module. Valid values range from 1 to 255.
Config Assembly Size
Enter the number of 16-bit configuration words required to communicate with the module. This assembly consists of the default configuration array plus additional portions of other arrays. Valid values range from 0 to 200, depending on the module.
Status
Displays the status the controller has about the module:
This status: | Indicates: |
Standby | a transient state that occurs when shutting down |
Faulted | the controller is unable to communicate with the module When the status is Faulted, the Connection tab displays the fault. |
Validating | a transient state that occurs before connecting to the module |
Connecting | a state that occurs while the connection(s) are being established to the module |
Running | the module is communicating and everything is working as expected |
Shutting Down | the connections are closing |
Inhibited | the connection to the module is inhibited |
Waiting | a connection to this module has not yet been made due to one of the following:
