Select objects from dialog boxes

Some commands need additional information before you can complete them. Commands that require more information display a dialog box. Dialog boxes can contain any or all of the following:
  • Text boxes - These are boxes requiring input.
You type information into the space provided. When you move to an empty space, an insertion point (a flashing vertical bar) appears. Any text you type starts at the insertion point. You can move from box to box by pressing Tab or the arrow keys.
  • Drop-down list boxes - These appear initially as a rectangular box containing the current selection.
When you select the down arrow in the square box at the right, a list of available choices appears.
  • Command buttons - These buttons initiate immediate action.
Command buttons are usually located along the bottom or on the right side of the dialog.
  • Option buttons - These are buttons that represent a choice of options from which you can select only one.
When a dotted box appears inside the border of the button, it is selected. If an option button is dimmed (also referred to as unavailable), it cannot be selected at the present time.
  • Check boxes - These are boxes that present you with items that can be selected and support choosing multiple items.
If a check box is dimmed, it cannot be selected at the present time.
