Import/export a full project

Import an entire project from an ASCII L5K or an XML L5X file.
To import a full project
  1. From the
    File
    menu, choose
    Open
    .
    The
    Open/Import Project
    dialog box opens.
  2. In
    File name
, enter the name of the project file to open.
You can also enter the name by selecting on a file in the browser.
  3. Select
    Open
to open the L5K or L5X file.
The import process must create a project file. Specify the name and location of this file.
    The
    Save Imported Project As
    dialog box opens.
  4. Select
    Import
    to open the project file.
Once the project file opens, view the
    Controller Organizer.
It lists everything in the controller when the project file was last saved.
    TIP:
Importing an L5K or L5X file that contains any Serial Port, DF1, or ASCII elements into a project using a controller with no serial ports results in an import error. The import continues to completion.
To export a full project
Only export a project if you have the project file open.
  1. From the
    File
    menu, choose
    Save As
    .
    The
    Save As
    dialog box opens.
  2. In
    File name
, enter a name for the export file.
You do not need to add a file extension. If you do, use the L5K extension.
  3. In
    Save As Type
    field, choose the
    Logix Designer
    Import/Export file (*L5K, L5X).
  4. Select
    Save
    to export the project file.
If you are offline, and there are one or more properties dialog boxes with pending edits, the edits are automatically applied. If you are online, you are prompted to apply the edits. Furthermore, if you are online, you are prompted to upload tag values from the controller before exporting. Decide if you want the current tag values exported.
    TIP:
If Force Masks are set in your project, they are exported. Upon import, any Force Masks are input to the project, and the Online Bar indicator is set to
    Forces Installed
    .
The state of the Online Bar
    Forces Enabled
indicator is not exported. Upon import, it is set to
    Forces Disabled
    .
    Rockwell Automation
does not recommend editing force values in the export file.
