Apply License Source Protection to a component
License Source Protection controls these permissions on license-protected components: Use, View, Edit, Copy, Export, and Protect. Applying License Source Protection requires a Rockwell License Source Protection activation license.
TIP:
In this version of the
Logix Designer
application, License Source Protection does not support these routine types:- Safety routines.
- Sequential Function Chart routines.
- Function Block Diagrams onCompact GuardLogix5380,CompactLogix5380,CompactLogix5480,ControlLogix5580, andGuardLogix5580 controllers, unless the Function Block Diagram is included in an Add-On Instruction. However, License-protected Function Block Diagrams are supported are supported in both routines and Add-On Instructions onCompactLogix5370,ControlLogix5570,Compact GuardLogix5370, andGuardLogix5570 controllers.
TIP:
Cannot modify the Source Protection settings if the Add-On Instruction is sealed. To source protect and seal an Add-On Instruction, apply the source protection settings before sealing.

containing the corresponding license with at least Use
permission into a USB port on the computer.To apply License Protection to a component:
- SelectTools > Security > Configure Source Protectionto open theSource Protection Configurationdialog box.
- Insert theCmStickcontaining the license into a USB port on a computer. To protect components, the licenses must contain theProtectpermission. If a license does not contain theProtectpermission, the license does not appear in the licenses list.
- In theSource Protection Configurationdialog box, select the component to protect. To select multiple components, press and holdCtrland select the components.
- SelectProtect.
- In theProtectdialog box, select the license for this component.
- On, select the Execution Protection type:CompactLogix5380,CompactLogix5480,ControlLogix5580,Compact GuardLogix5380, andGuardLogix5580 controllers
- Protect with controller key only.
- Protect with controller key and specific license. When selected, the component runs only on a controller in the same family as the one specified for the project and that contains a CmCard with the selected execution license.If selectingProtect with controller key and specific license, select the execution license from the list of available licenses.OnCompactLogix5380,CompactLogix5480, andControlLogix5580 controllers, after protecting components they can also be locked. Locking a component prevents users from viewing or editing the component, but allows authorized users to run the component.. Default selection indicating that the component runs only on a controller in the same family as the one specified for the project. For example, if you apply License Source Protection to a component in a project on a 5580 controller, the component only executes on another 5580 controller.
- SelectOKto return to theSource Protection Configurationdialog box.TIP:To save changes to a component that is protected with License Source Protection, plug aCmStickcontaining the required license into the computer running theLogix Designerapplication.Be sure to save your edits to the project or lock the protected components before removing theCmStickcontaining the required license. Losing edits to the project iis possible if the license is not present.
- Close theSource Protection Configurationdialog box and save the project file.
