Select Module Type dialog box - Catalog tab

The
Catalog
tab presents the available list of modules that is valid for the current context. It is the default tab of the
Select Module Type
dialog box. In addition to presenting a list of modules, this tab also offers tools that aid in quickly and efficiently finding a required target module type among the list of module types.
These parameters are available on this tab.
Search box
Use to search for a specific module or similar modules. The Search box provides an incremental type-ahead search that searches the list of modules automatically based on the typed characters. The
Module Type Category Filters
and the
Module Type Vendor Filters
updates based on type characters, as well as the Catalog Results list. Enter only alphanumeric text up to 40 characters, except for the following characters: ! @ # $ ^ ( ) _ + = ~ ` / | { } [ ]
  • The function searches all the displayed text in all the columns (except the
    Category
column) of a given module type. For example, when typing
    ra
in the Search box, only those module types show in that list that have the ra string in any part of their
    Catalog Number
    ,
    Description
    , or
    Vendor
    name.
  • The Search box supports the asterisk (*) as a wildcard character. Use between 1 and 4 search terms, separated by the * characters. For example, enter
    16*ac*isolated*1756
to find a module like the 1756-IA16I, 16 point 79-132V AC Isolated Input module.
  • The function searches all the text in all the columns (except the
    Category
column) of a given module type.
Catalog Results
Displays a list of module types based on the Search feature. The list is dynamic and always reflects the contents that match the current search and filter criteria. The results display the module name, description, and vendor.
Sort the list of modules based on
Catalog Number
,
Description
,
Vendor
, or
Category
.
  • Sort the Catalog Results list in ascending (0, 1, n; A-Z) or descending (Z-A; n,..., 1, 0) alphanumeric order based on any column. Clicking on a column toggles the sort between ascending and descending (the default being ascending). A small arrow, indicating the direction of the sort, displays on the currently sorted column heading.
  • If cannot select a module type in the Results List, it means that the module is valid under the given context but cannot create or configure under the current circumstances. Valid context refers to a network or chassis representation in the
    Logix Designer
controller organizer to which modules can be added. Modules that work as scanners or adapters are also referred to as valid contexts because they allow access to modules on a network or chassis.
For example, when online and trying to create a 1756-MO2SE module profile, the entry for 1756-MO2SE is not selectable since motion modules cannot be created online.
Catalog Results list controls
Sort arrow on column headings:
Sort the Module Type list alphanumerically ascending or descending based on any column. Clicking on the desired column toggles the sort between ascending and descending. The default is ascending. A sort arrow displays on the column currently sorted, indicating the direction of the sort.
Context menu:
Right-click on an item to create it or add it to the
Favorites
tab.
Modules that are not selectable indicate that the module is valid under the given context but cannot be created or configured under given circumstances, for example, it cannot be created online.
Catalog Results list status:
This text is right below the Catalog Results list; it displays information about the number of displayed modules in the list and the total number of available modules for the given context.
Show/Hide Filters (toggle button)
Toggles between showing and hiding the
Module Type Category Filters
and
Module Type Vendor Filters
lists. The Catalog Results list expands when the filters are hidden and contract when filters are shown.
  • Show Filters
Click this button to show the
    Module Type Category Filters
    and the
    Module Type Vendor Filters
. When all of the check boxes are selected, all modules are displayed in the Catalog Results list. Clear any items in the filters list to refine what displays in the Catalog Results list.
The direction of the arrow on the button provides a visual indication of what happens when the button is selected. For example, if the arrows point up, clicking on the button closes the
    Module Type Category Filters
    and the
    Module Type Vendor Filters
and the Catalog Results list expands upward.
  • Hide Filters
The button is enabled when the Filters area is opened. Click to hide the Filters area.
Clear Filter
Select this button to clear any selected filters. All list views (Catalog Results,
Module Type Category Filters
, and
Module Type Vendor Filters
) are reset to their original content.
TIP:
Original content is the content that displays when the dialog is first opened.
Module Type Category Filters list
The
Module Type Category Filters
list view displays a dynamic list of categories that represent the module types displayed in the Catalog Results list. The names for module type categories are acquired from the definition files for the module types. Module type definition files like EDS and
Logix Designer
module type XML define these categories.
  • For module types based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), the module type categories are the same as the product
    Type
    field used in the
    Electronic Keying
    information on the
    New Module
    dialog box.
  • Text in the
    Module Type Category Filters
list may not be selectable as a result of a search. The grayed out text indicates that the filter item has been excluded from the results. For example, start typing
    an
. If there are no drives that contain the letters an, the Drives category is grayed out. At the same time, if there are no devices from a vendor that have the letters an in them, then the vendor is grayed out in the Vendors list.
  • Multiple selections are allowed by using the check boxes to the left of each module type.
  • Selecting the All check box in the upper left-hand corner of the
    Module Type Category Filters
list causes every check box to become selected. Clearing it causes every check box to clear and the Catalog Results list to become empty.
Module Type Vendor Filters list
The
Module Type Vendor Filters
list view displays a dynamic list of vendors that represent the module types displayed in the Catalog Results list. The names for module vendors are acquired from the definition files for the module types. Module type definition files like EDS &
Logix Designer
application module type that support CIP protocol have a Vendor ID that can be used to look up the Vendor Name. For CIP based module types, the vendor names come from the ODVA published list.
  • Text in the
    Module Type Vendor Filters
list may not be selectable as a result of a search.
  • Selecting the All check box in the upper left-hand corner of the
    Module Type Vendor Filters
list causes every check box to become selected, as shown below. Clearing it causes every check box to become cleared and the Catalog Results list to become empty.
Add to Favorites
Select this button to add the currently selected module type to the Favorites list on the
Favorites
tab. The button is enabled when a module type is selected.
Close on Create
Determines whether the
Select Module Type
dialog box closes or remains open after clicking

. If the check box is selected, the
New Module
dialog box opens and the
Select Module Type
dialog box closes. If the box is cleared, the
