Select Module Type dialog box - Module Discovery tab
All the module types found during browsing are displayed in the Module Discovery Results list. The
Module Discovery
tab, like the Favorites
tab, does not make use of the Filters options. The Search box is also not available since the list of devices presented is much smaller.Use this tab to perform online module discovery to find attached physical devices on a network or backplane. The system continuously browses the network and backplane when the
Logix Designer
application is online and the Module Discovery
tab is active. All modules found are displayed in the Module Discovery Results list. If any modules are added, removed, or change state while a browse is being performed, the Module Discovery
tab reflects these changes. The tab is empty when the application is not online or when the path to the network being browsed is faulty. If the application is not online or the path to the network being browsed is faulty, the
Module Discovery
tab does not contain any module types. The Module Discovery Results list will be blank except for the message: Module Discovery is only supported when Logix Designer is online and the network path is valid
.Module Discovery Results list
All the module types found during browsing are displayed in the Module Discovery Results list. Certain module types may have a red flag
indicating that these modules are valid for the context, but they cannot be created due to one of the following reasons:

- Module type is not allowed to be created online.
- Address at which this module type needs to be inserted is already being used. This scenario indicates a possible mismatch between a module type that is already configured in the project and the physical device that is present on the network or backplane, or the fact that the module has already been configured.
Right-clicking an object displays a menu from which to create the module type, add it to Favorites, or register the EDS file, if applicable.
Modules column
Displays the modules found on the network or backplane. The first item in the list is generally a backplane or bus, with text describing the catalog number of the product. Successive items display the I/O modules or devices that are present on the backplane or network. For example:

Revision column
Displays the hardware revision (as shown as Major Revision.Minor Revision) of each of the devices on the backplane or network.
Additional Information column
Displays error messages and helpful troubleshooting suggestions, where appropriate. Examples of these error messages are:
- Discovered device does not match the device in the project. The module type being configured in theLogix Designerapplication at a given address is different than the actual module type that is connected to the Network or Backplane. Module type mismatch for CIP modules is defined as difference in Vendor ID, Device Type, Product Code or Major Revision.
- This module cannot be created online. Go offline to create it.The module type that is connected to the Network or Backplane does not have support to be created online in theLogix Designerapplication.
- EDS file for this module is not registered. This occurs when the module type is Unknown. There are cases where, for a given module type on the network or backplane, the EDS file is not installed. In this case, all that is known is the CIP key for the module type. To register the EDS file, either right-click on the module type and selectRegister EDS Fileor clickRegister EDS Fileto the right of the error message under theActioncolumn.
- A profile must be installed before this device can be created. This occurs when the EDS file is registered, but a custom profile must be installed before the EDS file can be used.
Action column
Displays what action to take to remedy a problem.
