Configuration Tab 1756-IR6I, floating point
Use this tab to configure the 1756-IR6I floating point, analog input module.
Use the
Configuration
tab to:- Select the channel to configure
- Enter scaling values
- Enter a real time sample period
- Enter an input range
- Enter a calibration bias value
- Select a digital filter time
- Select temperature units
- Select a sensor type
- Select a notch filter frequency

Parameters
Channel
Select one of the channel buttons to display its information on this tab.
Scaling
- Low SignalEnter a low scaling value in signal units, Ohms or degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit when linearizing inputs. You must set this input point within the module default signal range. This value is scaled to Low Engineering value.
- Low EngineeringEnter a value in user engineering units to which the Low Signal should be scaled. All values sent to/from the module are in engineering units.
- High SignalEnter a high scaling value in signal units, Ohms or degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit when linearizing inputs. You must set this input point within the module default signal range. This value is scaled to High Engineering value.
- High EngineeringEnter a value in user engineering units to which the High Signal should be scaled. All values sent to/from the module are in engineering units.
Input Range
Select the operating range (in Ohms) of a specific channel:
- 1 to 487 Ohms
- 2 to 1000 Ohms
- 4 to 2000 Ohms
- 8 to 4020 Ohms
Calibration Bias
Enter an offset value. This value is added to the input during the calibration calculation to compensate for inaccuracies of the sensor.
Digital Filter
Select a filter time constant in milliseconds. This field is a first order lag filter that smooths input transitions.
Sensor Type
Select a sensor type:

You can configure each sensor type for specific high and low values of signals that are linearized.
Notch Filter
Select a frequency. This filter attenuates the selected frequency and its harmonics in the input signal. You can choose the filter frequency to filter out line noise.
10 Ohm Copper Offset
Enter an offset value. The offset value is added to the input prior to linearizing. This allows you to add compensation for the copper input. This field is only applicable when you use the 10 Ohm Copper 427 Sensor Type.
RTS (Real Time Sample Period)
Enter the time (in milliseconds) to indicate how often the module’s inputs are to be sampled.
There is only one RTS for the entire module (you can’t have a different one for each channel).
The RTS period controls how often the module prepares new readings. The Requested Packet Interval (RPI on the Connection tab) controls how often the module sends its current readings to the controller. Generally these two values should be similar so that each reading gets sent to the controller one time.
Temperature Units
Select a temperature scale: Fahrenheit or Celsius for the entire module.
OK
Select this button to accept your edits on any tab and close the dialog.
Cancel
Select this button to cancel your edits on any tab and close the dialog.
Apply
Select this button to apply your edits on any tab and continue editing.
If:
- you are online in Program, Remote Program or Remote Run mode and,
- this controller is the owner controller and,
- you have changed the module’s configuration in the software,
when you select the Apply or the OK button, the information is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the information to the module (if the module’s connection is not inhibited). If you don’t select Apply, your changes are not sent to the controller.
