Device registration to domain
Devices embedding the FactoryTalk Remote Access Runtime must be registered to a domain. This registration allows their management and enables remote connection. Remote connections can be established by choosing either the
Interactive Access
or VPN
options within FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager.The domain registration procedure might differ depending on the device type and firmware version.

featuring a firmware version older than or equal to 4.0.2 - Access the FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager and select.
- Select the domain folder in which you want to register your device.
- Select theAdd resource(circled plusbutton).
- SelectAdd device.
- SelectAdd device locally.NOTE: A pop-up message may appear which asks for permission to open the Tool. Before confirming, you can checkAlways allow checkbox to prevent this message from prompting again during this session. If you use a different computer or a different browser, this message will prompt again.
- In theAdd device locallydialog window, enter the password by logging in as anAdminuser. Then, a list displays the MAC addresses of the devices found on your network.NOTE: These credentials are the same that you use to access the device System Manager, and the default password for an admin user isadmin. Refer to the device User Manual to learn more about System Manager. See https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/.
- Select the device that you want to add to your domain.
- Enter a device name in theInitial namefield.
- SelectRegister.NOTE: You might be prompted to log in to your account, if you have not done it yet.

- Select theFT Remote Accesssection, then clickConnect. Wait until a connection is established.NOTE: If the remote device is not registered to any domain yet, the web page displays an ID along with a password used for device registration to the domain.
- To register the remote device, log in to FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager by using a user's account withAdminrights.
- In FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager, access thesection and open the domain folder in which you want to store the remote device.
- SelectAdd resource(circled plusbutton), then selectAdd device.
- SelectAdd device remotelyand enter the ID and password that you previously obtained by selectingConnecton System Manager.
- SelectSave. The newly registered device is named<No name>in the previously selected folder and must be renamed.
- Rename the device.

Hardware identification
Upon its first connection to the network, Runtime stores its identity on the device disk in a file named
auth.bin
. The location of this file depends on the system used, as indicated in the following table.System | Path |

NOTE:
It is not possible to transfer the identity file from one device to another by copying the
auth.bin
file. However, you can create a backup of the file and restore it after uninstalling and reinstalling the operating system or Runtime.The only scenario in which you cannot restore the identity file is when the disk is replaced. In this case, the device is recognized as a different machine.
