Controller Date and Time dialog box

How do I access the Controller Date and Time dialog box?
  • From the
    Controller Organizer
, right click the controller and choose
    Properties
    .
  • From the
    Controller Properties
    dialog box, select the
    Date/Time
    tab.
The Date and Time tab displays the controller’s Wall Clock Time (WCT), and allows enabling of a system time distributed across the backplane and to other networked components using CIP Sync.
The valid range for Date and Time is from 1/1/1970 12:00:00 A.M. UTC to 7/21/2554 11:59:59 P.M. UTC, coordinated universal time. That means the range for Date and Time parameter varies depending on the time zone and the Adjust for Daylight Saving parameter.
The Adjust for Daylight Saving parameter indicates whether or not the Date and Time parameter is adjusted for Daylight Saving. Alter this option; it is not automatically adjusted by the controller. In other words, if the current controller Date and Time is 07/23/2005 11:23:56 A.M., which is in daylight saving time, the Time Zone is (UTC-05:00), and Adjust for Daylight Saving (+01:00) is on. When the controller Date and Time runs to 11/1/2005 12:00:00 A.M., which is out of daylight saving time, the Adjust for Daylight Saving (+01:00) in the controller is still on.
Turn the Daylight Saving Time option off. Turn off the Adjust for Daylight Saving on the Controller Properties Date/Time tab or add application code that uses a GSV instruction to automate daylight savings time. When the Adjust for Daylight saving box does not have a check mark, the Daylight Saving Time option is off.
To enable CIP Sync on the controller, select
Enable Time Synchronization
. Enabling time synchronization allows the controller to participate as a clock in the system time. It also allows the controller to become a master clock for the system, or become a master clock on the backplane.
IMPORTANT:
CIP Sync does not manage Daylight Saving Time and time zones, these settings must be configured in each controller.
When time synchronization is enabled, view its state at the bottom of the screen with the status indicators. Also select
Advanced
to find out more information about the clocks, identify which clock is the grandmaster clock, and change the local clock priorities.
IMPORTANT:
Enabling Time Synchronization on a controller impacts the system time related to this controller, other controllers, and CIP Sync enabled devices.
IMPORTANT:
When time synchronization is enabled, the wall clock is controlled by the system grandmaster clock. If the controller is a slave to the grandmaster clock, the date and time on this controller cannot be changed. The controller's local wall clock time can only be changed by the system grandmaster clock.

and CIP Sync Configuration Application Techniques
, publication IA-AT003.
TIP:
Date and time and time synchronization information is only available when the controller is online.
