Rockwell Automation, the world’s largest company dedicated to industrial automation and digital transformation, announced that its advanced digitalized life sciences production solutions are playing a key role in an innovative pharmaceutical development center in Uppsala, Sweden.
The Testa Center – an initiative between the Swedish government and Cytiva, a global life sciences leader – was created in 2018 to support the growth of the Life Sciences industry and its manufacturing capabilities. Since 2019, it has served to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Rockwell and Cytiva and their collaboration on automation within the biomanufacturing industry.
Rockwell Automation and Cytiva bring their expertise in biomanufacturing and automation to the center to create an efficient, flexible, and scalable platform designed to illustrate, prove, and accelerate the industry’s digital transformation. The collaboration enables stronger integration, data collection, and analysis, resulting in a standardized manufacturing platform capable of core data management.
Åsa Arvidsson, Vice President EMEA North region at Rockwell Automation, explains: “Adaptability and scalability are essential facets of any contemporary life sciences operation. As personalized treatments, single-use skids, and rapid-development programs become more and more common, manufacturers need the agility to develop, test, improve, and manufacture at a pace far quicker than ever before. This can only be achieved efficiently with digitalized process and automation solutions, developed specifically with pharma needs in mind.”
Jesper Hedberg, CEO at the Testa Center, elaborates: “The center supports growth in biological, technological, and digital innovations, all of which come together to create a more agile framework for the faster, more precise, and more efficient development of personalized treatments. When we collaborate and do things together, we not only innovate quicker, but we can also make dramatic changes and improvements to help humankind.”
The collaboration, which has also seen the creation of an Automation and Digital Transformation Center, in Shanghai, is exploring how to apply the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Augmented Reality (AR) and other advanced technologies for connectivity across the manufacturing process. With innovative solutions for factory field management in progress, Rockwell Automation and Cytiva are establishing a promising future for digital solutions for biopharmaceutical companies, helping enhance training and efficiency for operators, improving speed of batch review, streamlining equipment management, and intensifying efficiency.
