Add Structured Text Element dialog box overview
Use this dialog box to add instructions and functions to a structured text routine. As you type the instruction mnemonic, the closest match is selected in the list. You can place the instruction in a list or in a group. You can also add instructions using Quick Keys. Add-On-Instructions cannot be used as a Quick Key.
TIP:
To open the Add Structured Text Element dialog:
- Right-click in the Structured Text routine editor and selectAdd ST element.
The following table describes the dialog box parameters.
Parameter | Description |
ST Element | Enter the element to add. Notice that as you type, the structured text element list advances to the closest match. Tip: If your project uses a controller that does not have a serial port, the Add Structured Text Element dialog box does not show the ASCII Serial Port group, which contains the Serial Port instructions (the ASCII String and ASCII Conversion groups and instructions remain). The user-configured tab order is not affected by the removal of the ASCII Serial Port group. |
Instruction Help | Select to toggle between turning the Instruction Help Pane on and off. The Help Pane is operational for built-in instructions as well as for Add-On Instructions. |
Instruction Help pane | Opens to the right and displays the instruction help for the instruction where the cursor is located. For built-in language elements, there is a button above the instruction help text that lets you navigation to the full instruction help for that instruction. |
Logix Designer application Instruction | When the dialog is expanded to display the help, the Logix Designer application Instruction button is enabled to access help for built-in instructions. This button appears dimmed for Add-On Instructions. |
Element list | The list of available structured text instructions. This list includes all instructions available in the structured text language, including the name and a brief description of each. An Add-On folder includes all the Add-On Instructions in the project. If an instruction is not valid for the current context, for example, inside an Add-On Instruction logic routine, the instruction is not in the list. Any Add-On Instruction that would cause recursive calls is in the list, but appears dimmed. |
Show Language Elements by Groups | To help organize the list of instructions, the list can be displayed in groups. This option is selected by default. To see a list of all instructions (including those that do not belong to a group), clear this check box and the instructions are listed in alphabetical order. |
New Add-On Instruction | Click this button to open the New Add-on Instruction dialog box. |
