Update the definition of a FactoryTalk Smart Object from an instance

Update the definition of a
FactoryTalk Smart Object
 from an instance in the
System
explorer to update the instances of the
FactoryTalk Smart Object
 and the definition of the
FactoryTalk Smart Object
 in the
Library
.
IMPORTANT: Modifying FactoryTalk Smart Objects using the Code Editor may result in syntax errors that will prevent the explorers from displaying information. We recommend using the user interface to create or modify FactoryTalk Smart Objects.
  1. On the explorer bar, select
    System
    .
  2. Right-click a
    FactoryTalk Smart Object
     and select
    Update definition
    .
  3. In
    Update definition
    , view the list of instances and definitions affected by any updates to the definition and then change:
    • Name
      . The name of
      FactoryTalk Smart Object
      .
    • Description
      . An optional description of what the
      FactoryTalk Smart Object
       logic does in the system.
    • New version number
      . Assign a version number from 1 to 999.
      TIP:
      You can change the name of the definition in
      Properties
      in
      Smart Object definition
      .
  4. Select
    Update definition
    .
