Save a project

Save a project

Save a project or Optix template locally, in a version control repository, on a network drive, or a removable drive.
  • Save a project using one of three ways:
  • From the toolbar, select
    Save
    .
The project is saved to the same location from which you opened the project.
  • From the toolbar, select the down arrow after
    Save
    , select
    Save As
    , and then in
    Save project as
, save the project as either a project or an Optix template:
    1. Name
      . Enter a new name.
    2. Save as type
      . Select either
      Optix project
to save the project with a .optix extension, or
      Optix template
to save the project with a .optixt extension.
    3. Location
. Enter the location to save the project or Optix template.
TIP: The location for saving a template is read-only. All templates are stored in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\RockwellAutomation\FactoryTalk Optix\ProjectTemplates and are prepended with template_.
    4. (optional) To encrypt project or Optix template passwords, custom objects that have the
      Password
      DataType, and
      YAML
files that represent the project information model, select the option next to
      Secrets Encryption Mode
      and then for
      New projects secrets encryption
      , select either:
      • Remote key store
. Encrypt project secrets by using a remote key store. You need to be logged in to
        FactoryTalk Hub
and be a part of a relevant organization.
      • User provided password
. Encrypt project secrets with a password.
TIP: For more information about secrets encryption and the default project encryption for new projects, see Project secrets encryption and Set options.
    5. Select
      OK
      .
  • From the toolbar, select
    Save
    Save and Commit
    .
The project or Optix template is saved and a commit is made to the local version control repository. When you commit project changes for the first time, a Git repository initializes for the project.
