Devices explorer

Devices explorer

Use the
Devices
explorer to view and manage the hardware used in the project. All hardware devices added to the project appear. If no devices are added to the project, the
Devices
explorer is empty.
The
Devices
explorer contains folders:
  • Assigned
    . Controllers in the project.
  • Unassigned
. Devices in the project that do not have a controller connection. The devices in the
    Unassigned
folder cannot be used without a controller connection.

Online and Offline indicators

When you go online with a controller, additional status indicators appear in the
Devices
explorer.
  • Green rails appear next to the controller that you are online with.
  • Yellow rails appear next to the controller if you were online with it but the connection has been lost.
  • Red rails appear next to the controller if you were online with it but an unknown error has occurred.
  • The offline only indicator appears if a program or routine is allocated to the online controller but has not been deployed.
  • The online only indicator appears if a program or routine is deployed to the online controller but is not present in the offline project.  This indicator may appear on a yellow background if there is a warning about the project or controller, or on a red background if the project has an error or the controller is faulted.
  • If no green rail illuminates and there are no online only or offline only indicators, then the controller is offline.
TIP: When moving devices from assigned or unassigned that exist online and offline, the old location displays the online-only icon and the new location displays the offline-only icon.
TIP: Renaming a device that exists online and offline causes the component to appear twice in the tree. The old name appears next to the online-only icon. The new appears next to an offline-only icon.

Overview of status icons

The Devices explorer displays status icons in the tree that represent when a task or program is inhibited and when a component has multiple conditions online or offline.
  • The icons are displayed in priority order:
    • Online
      • Major Fault
      • Minor Fault
      • Inhibit Status
      • Validation Errors
      • Warnings
      • Information Messages
    • Offline
      • Inhibit Status
      • Validation Errors
      • Warnings
      • Information Messages
  • Each icon has a tooltip that provides details of the status of the component, task or program. If the inhibit state is cleared, the icon will be replaced by the next icon in the priority order.
  • When a component has multiple conditions online or offline, an icon tooltip provides details with each status showing first online status and then offline status in priority order. If the status changes, the icon will be replaced by the next status in priority order and the tooltip will update.
