Select the controller mode
After you deploy a project to a controller you can go online with it. Once online, use the Online pane to select the controller mode.
Keep these considerations in mind when selecting the controller mode:
- When you deploy a project to multiple controllers, all controllers remain in Program mode. The controllers remain in Program mode until you go online with each controller and set the mode to Run.
- You can be online with only one controller at a time. If you are currently online with a controller and choose to go online with a different controller, you automatically go offline with the current controller and all monitoring tabs are closed.
To select the controller mode
In the Online pane, select
Program
mode or Run
mode:
- Program mode. In Program mode, the controller halts execution of tasks, programs and routines. It continues to read and write I/O, but output values do not change because the program scans are not running.
- Run mode. In Run mode, the controller schedules tasks, scans programs and routines, and reads and writes I/O.
TIP:
You might need permission to select the controller mode. See Role-Based Access Control for more information.
