Download to emulated controller
Download the project to a compatible emulated controller to debug the application code. The emulated controller is compatible with project files belonging to the same family of controllers. For example, you can download a 1756-L85E project file to a 5580 emulated controller. To use the 5580 emulated controller, create projects in the Logix Designer application for ControlLogix 5580 controllers.
When there is a version mismatch of the project file and the emulated controller, Logix Designer requests to launch an emulated controller with the correct version number. When the controller type in the project does not match the emulated controller, Logix Designer requests to launch a matching emulated controller.
NOTE:
Logix Designer versions 37 and later do not support emulated 5560 and 5570 controllers.
When uploading the project from the emulated controller, the project previously downloaded to the emulated controller and the project to upload must be the same type. For example, if you downloaded an L84E project to the emulated 5580 controller, it can only upload into an L84E project.
