Based in Les Achards, Vendée, in France MG Tech, founded in 2004, explains that the skill of its employees who are passionate about their profession has proved instrumental in the company’s expansion and growth; with CEO Eric Gautier pointing out that this is backed by constant research into quality and industrial performance.
According to Charles Girault, business development at MG Tech: “We provide a wide range of packaging equipment for secondary and tertiary products, including wrapping machines, cartoning machines, case-erecting machines, case packers and palletizing machines. We are also able to provide full industrial packaging lines, including different functionalities, so our customers can adapt their production lines to match industrial needs.”
With this impressive technological portfolio, the company supports a wide range of markets, including dairy, bakery, confectionary, desserts, fresh produce, tea, coffee, meat, petfood, cosmetics and general grocery.
One of the company’s best sellers is its Wrap-Around Case Packer, available in sequential or continuous models. “MG Tech’s packer DNA is different than its competitors,” Girault explains. “We take products as they come and, as far as possible, we pick them individually – respecting product integrity by keeping physical contact to an absolute minimum – using robots and load them directly into the cartons without a collation phase, a design principle that makes our case packers not only very easy to operate but also fast to change between batches/formats, without the use of tools.”
Of interest to many of its customers will be the company’s brand new Cobotic Palletizer, which performs palletization of open trays up to 30 kg on Euro or US pallets. Thanks to its additional vertical axis, trays can be stacked on pallets up to 2,500 mm. Girault elaborates: “Our Cobotic Palletizer offers our customers increased flexibility within a smaller footprint, which makes it ideal for those looking for a solution that will help them move from manual to automatic palletization.
“We use robotics and vision systems in all our machines for loading and sometimes for carton forming and closing,” Girault adds. “And to maintain maximum productivity, we have developed our own robots – poly-articulated and 3-, 4- or 5-axis delta robots). We have also developed strong partnerships with robot and cobot suppliers, including Fanuc.”
Fanuc is part of the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetwork™ as a Strategic Alliance Partner.
In this regard, Rockwell Automation has proved pivotal for MG Tech, not just for specific technological developments, but also for the company’s expansion into the North American market. One of the key features MG Tech appreciates is the open architecture used by the automation solutions.
MG Tech does not do ‘black boxes’,” Girault exclaims. “We make our programs accessible to end users so their technicians and operators have easy access to modify parameters, all of which is made possible by a user-friendly interface into all the I/O and servo-axes. New formats should be easy to create, not difficult.”
The connectivity delivered by the automation solution also supports MG Tech’s new IN USE platform, which is delivered with all new machines. “IN-USE allows our customers to have access to a chat area with our service department as well as visibility of updated machinery documentation. In addition to this, it also offers an optional monitoring function, which can be used to record production and efficiency data for the creation of predictive maintenance routines. The machines are also equipped with a telemaintenance system, which uses cameras placed in strategic positions within the machine to record events when they happen.
“We have been working with Rockwell Automation for many years,” Girault concludes. “It is a major player in the food market, and has a strong global network, which has helped us with our move into the North American market.”
