Excitation Tab
Use this tab to enter the initial excitation settings to match your system and applications.
On this tab, you can:
- enter the soft start initial voltage and start time values
- select the type of excitation to be used
- select the appropriate phase, if using PMG as the excitation power source
Parameters
Soft Start
Initial Voltage
Enter the generator voltage that will be generated immediately after enabling the CGCM excitation output. This value is based on a percentage of the nominal generator rated voltage. Valid values range from 0.0% to 90.0%. The default value is 5.0%.
Time
Enter the amount of time (in seconds) that it will take to go from the Soft Start Initial Voltage to the nominal generator voltage. Valid values range from 1.0 to 7200.0 seconds. The default value is 5.0 seconds.
Over-Excitation Voltage
Setpoint
Valid values range from 1.00 V to 200.0- V. The default value is 150.00 V.
Delay
Valid values range from .10 seconds to 30.00 seconds. The default value is 1.00 seconds.
Loss Excitation Current
Setpoint
Enter the value for CGCM dc output current that is considered to be the minimum needed to maintain generator synchronization when in parallel with other power sources such as a utility grid. This threshold enables loss of sensing. Valid values range from .10 A to 15.00 A. The default value is 0.50 A.
Delay
Enter the amount of time the CGCM excitation will be below the Loss of Excitation Current Setpoint before the module annunciates a loss of excitation fault and, if configured, activates the fault relay output. Valid values range from .10 seconds to 9.90 seconds. The default value is 5.00 seconds.
Rotating Diode Fault
Main Pole
Enter the number of poles in the main field of the generator. Valid values are even numbers from 2 to 20 poles. The default value is 4.
Exciter Pole
Enter the number of poles in the exciter field of the generator. Valid values are even numbers from 2 to 20 poles. The default value is 8.
Open Diode Level
Enter the value for the percent ripple at which the rotating diode monitor will alarm when an open diode condition occurs. Valid values range from 0% to 100.00%. The default value is 5.00%.
Shorted Diode Level
Enter the value for the percent ripple at which the rotating diode monitor will alarm when a shorted diode condition occurs. Valid values range from 0% to 100.00%. The default value is 30.00%.
Delay
Enter the value for the amount of time the CGCM module will take before the module announces the rotating diodes have a fault. Valid values range from .10 seconds to 300.00 seconds. The default value is 15.00 seconds.
Excitation Select
This option allows the CGCM to accommodate power-input voltages from either the generator’s terminals (shunt), or from a permanent magnet generator (PMG). If you choose PMG, then you must also choose a PMG Phase Select option. This value is set to PMG, by default.
PMG Phase Select
Choose whether the PMG power applied to the CGCM module is to be single phase or three phase. This option is set to single phase, by default.
