Add a target device

Configure a target device to allow the deployment of
FactoryTalk Optix Applications
over the network.
  1. From the main toolbar, next to
    Run
, select the target dropdown menu.
  2. (optional) In
    Target device settings
, to display only the active remote target devices, toggle
    Active remote devices
    .
TIP: Refresh remote target devices by selecting
    Refresh
    .
  3. Select either:
    • A folder and select
      Add
      .
    • A
      FactoryTalk® Remote Access
      device and select
      Add
to add a device accessible from the selected
      FactoryTalk Remote Access
      device network.
  4. (optional) In
    Name
, edit the name of the target device.
IMPORTANT: Only alphanumeric characters are allowed in the name.
  5. In
    IP Address
, enter the IP address of the target device.
  6. In
    Username
, enter the name of the user to log on to the target device.
    Windows®
    username
    A system username:
    • DOMAIN\
      username
      , for domain users.
    • .username
, for local users on domain-joined devices.
    • username
, for local users on devices that do not belong to a domain.
    Linux username
    An administrator username.
IMPORTANT: A password must be configured for the user on the target device.
  7. (optionaI)
    Destination Path
, enter the path on the target device to deploy the application.
TIP: The default deployment destination path for Windows target devices is
    %localappdata%
. Defining a custom path is useful when the
    C:\
partition of the target device is write-protected. The destination path for Ubuntu target devices is
    /home/<username>/Documents/Project_1.
NOTE: You can deploy only one project. Therefore, any application previously deployed to
    Destination Path
removes the path in the default destination, and any application previously deployed to the default destination removes the
    Destination Path
    NOTE:
    Destination Path
    is not supported when deploying
    FactoryTalk Optix
    running as a service.
  8. (optional) Select
    Encrypt project on device
to encrypt the deployed project on the target device.
For more information, see Project encryption on a target device.
  9. (optional) Select
    Download source project on device
to download the source project on the target device.
TIP: Downloading the source project on the target device enables you to upload the source project from the target device to the development computer later on. For more information, see Open a project.
  10. (optional) To overwrite existing files on the target device, select
    Transfer application files
    .
TIP: If you intend to deploy an encrypted project, select
    Transfer application files
    .
  11. (optional) To optimize the project before transfer, select
    Transfer optimized project
    .
    IMPORTANT:
    Optimized projects:
    • Are smaller in size because nodes are only loaded when needed at runtime.
    • Keep tags in an external tag repository and not in the project repository.
    • May require more time to load and change screens on low performance devices.
You cannot optimize projects containing OPC UA servers that expose the entire model or at least one tag.
  12. Choose
    Select
    to select the target device.
