Add a target device
Configure a target device to allow the deployment of
FactoryTalk Optix Applications
over the network.- From the main toolbar, next toRun
- (optional) InTarget device settings, to display only the active remote target devices, toggleActive remote devices.TIP: Refresh remote target devices by selectingRefresh.
- Select either:
- A folder and select .
- AFactoryTalk® Remote Access™device and select to add a device accessible from the selectedFactoryTalk Remote Accessdevice network.
- (optional) InName, edit the name of the target device.IMPORTANT: Only alphanumeric characters are allowed in the name.
- InIP Address, enter the IP address of the target device.
- InUsername, enter the name of the user to log on to the target device.
- Windows®username
- A system username:
- DOMAIN\, for domain users.username
- , for local users on domain-joined devices..username
- , for local users on devices that do not belong to a domain.username
- Linux username
- An administrator username.
IMPORTANT: A password must be configured for the user on the target device. - (optionaI)Destination Path, enter the path on the target device to deploy the application.TIP: The default deployment destination path for Windows target devices is%localappdata%. Defining a custom path is useful when theC:\partition of the target device is write-protected. The destination path for Ubuntu target devices is /home/<username>/Documents/Project_1.NOTE: You can deploy only one project. Therefore, any application previously deployed toDestination Pathremoves the path in the default destination, and any application previously deployed to the default destination removes theDestination Path.NOTE:Destination Pathis not supported when deployingFactoryTalk Optixrunning as a service.
- (optional) SelectEncrypt project on deviceto encrypt the deployed project on the target device.For more information, see Project encryption on a target device.
- (optional) SelectDownload source project on deviceto download the source project on the target device.TIP: Downloading the source project on the target device enables you to upload the source project from the target device to the development computer later on. For more information, see Open a project.
- (optional) To overwrite existing files on the target device, selectTransfer application files.TIP: If you intend to deploy an encrypted project, selectTransfer application files.
- (optional) To optimize the project before transfer, selectTransfer optimized project.IMPORTANT:Optimized projects:
- Are smaller in size because nodes are only loaded when needed at runtime.
- Keep tags in an external tag repository and not in the project repository.
- May require more time to load and change screens on low performance devices.
You cannot optimize projects containing OPC UA servers that expose the entire model or at least one tag. - ChooseSelectto select the target device.
