Module Properties Dialog Box - Port Diagnostics Tab Overview (1756-ENET)

Use the Port Diagnostics tab to view status of the Ethernet network performance. You can:
  • View octet and packet counters,
  • View network collisions,
  • View network errors, and
  • Reset and clear all network status counters.
Parameters
The 1756-ENET module maintains counts of various features of the Ethernet protocol so that you can examine the counts to try to diagnose a problem when your network is not performing the way you expect it to. These Ethernet counters can be reset to zero and begin counting again by using the Reset Counters button.
Ethernet Counters
These network status elements allow you to view status of octets received and sent and packets received and sent.
Collisions
These network status elements allow you to view network collisions based on the elements below.
  • Single -
the number of successfully transmitted frames which experienced exactly one collision.
  • Multiple
    - the number of successfully transmitted frames which experienced more than one collision.
  • Late
    - the number of times that a collision is detected later than 512 bit-times into the transmission of a packet.
  • Excessive
    - the number of frames for which transmission fails due to excessive collisions.
Errors
These network status elements allow you to view network errors based on the elements below.
  • Alignment
    - the number of frames received that are not an integral number of octets in length.
  • FCS (Frame Check Sequence)
    - the number of frames received that do not pass the FCS check.
  • SQE Test
    - the number of times that the SQE TEST ERROR message is generated.
  • Deferred Transmissions
    - count of transmissions deferred by busy network.
