Who Active
dialog box are:
Setting
Description
Communication software network browser
Displays the topology of the network for selecting a controller.
Path
The current path to a controller on the network that
Logix Designer
uses to go online and upload data to a controller or download data from a controller.
The selected controller in the communication software edition matches the path. The first time the communication software edition browses to this path, it selects the root item in the topology. Browse to the controller to verify that the path is valid.
When browsing through the network devices in the topology, the field changes to show the path to the selected item. This path cannot be edited directly. After changing it using the
Advanced
option, the driver and path are combined into a path. For example, if selecting driver AB_KTC-1 and path 2, 6, 1, 0, the following appears:
AB_KTC-1\2, 6, 1, 0
, and the Who Active selection is set to the root item.
When opening a project, its path becomes current. The current and project paths shown are the same unless the current path is changed using the
Advanced
option.
If a path is truncated,
and ...
is added to the end. Place the mouse cursor over the path to see the whole path in a tool tip or increase the size of the dialog box to see the complete path.
Path in Project
The stored path in the project file. If a project is not open, this field is empty, and the label is grayed out.
Tip:
Changing communication software editions that have different names assigned to the network configuration can impact communication with a controller. This may require browsing the topology tree again to locate the controller.
Set Project Path
Used to set the current path to the project.
This command is not available if:
  • There is no project open.
  • A path is not selected.
  • The target node is not a controller supported by the
    Logix Designer
    application.
  • You are online with a controller and you have changed the current path.
Clear Project Path
Used to clear the project path.
This button is disabled if:
  • There is no project open.
  • The path is already set to <none>.
Go Online
Used to go online with the controller using the current path.
TIP:
If a project is not open, the file that matches the name of the controller opens. If another project is open, the software uses that project. If you are already online with a different controller, the open project closes, and the matching file opens.
Go Online
is not available if:
  • The selected node is not a controller supported by the software.
  • A controller is already online.
The
Go Online
command executes when you double click an entry in the communication software edition tree, or press
Enter
.
Upload
Used to upload data from a controller in the network.
TIP:
If a project is not open, the file that matches the name of the controller opens. If another project is open, the software uses that project. If you are already online with a different controller, the open project closes, and the matching file opens.
The
Upload
button is not available if:
  • The selected node is not a controller supported by the software.
  • A controller is already online.
Download
Used to download data to a controller in the network.
TIP:
The software always downloads the open project. If you are online with a different controller, the software connects to the selected controller before it opens the
Download
dialog box.
The
Download
button is not available if:
  • A project file is not open.
  • The selected node is not a controller supported by the software.
  • A controller is already online.
Update Firmware
Used to access the
Choose Firmware Update
dialog box and update a firmware revision for a controller.
TIP:
This button only updates controller firmware and certain motion module firmware. To update firmware for other devices, you must run the
ControlFLASH
application separately.
Advanced
Opens the
Driver and Path Configuration
dialog box. Use this dialog box to manually enter a path.
