Configure Internet Protocol settings

Use the
Internet Protocol
tab of the
Controller Properties
dialog box when the controller is online to configure the Internet Protocol (IP) settings for the controller. The tab is only available for controllers with an embedded Ethernet port.
You must have security permission to configure the Internet Protocol settings, and if the application is in a safety secured state, you cannot change the
Internet Protocol (IP) Settings
and
IP Address
.
Before you begin:
  • Verify the controller is online.
To configure the IP settings:
    1. On the
      Online
      toolbar, click the
      Controller Properties
      icon.
    2. On the
      Controller Properties
      dialog box, click the
      Internet Protocol
      tab.
  1. If the controller supports one or more configurable Ethernet port pairs, in the
    Port
box, select the port to be configured. The list of available ports depends on the controller and the EtherNet/IP Mode.
  2. If you want to obtain IP settings automatically from a server on the network using the DHCP protocol, for the
    Internet Protocol (IP) Settings
    , select
Obtain IP settings automatically using DHCP
. If you want to manually configure the settings, take the following actions.
  1. For
    Internet Protocol (IP) Settings
    , select
    Manually configure IP settings
    .
  2. In the
    IP Address
box, type a unique address used by the IP protocol to route information to and from the module.
  3. In the
    Subnet Mask
box, type the extension of the IP address scheme that lets a site use a single network ID for multiple physical networks.
  4. In the
    Gateway Address
box, type the address used to connect individual physical networks into a system of networks.
  5. (optional) Enter information in the remaining boxes on the tab.
    TIP:
When controllers that support one or more configurable Ethernet port pairs are configured for Dual IP:
    • The IP Address and Subnet Mask for the each Ethernet port must define a range of IP addresses that do not overlap.
    • Domain Name, Primary DNS Server, and Secondary DNS Server settings for the A1 Ethernet port for
      CompactLogix
5380 controllers and the B1 Ethernet port for
      CompactLogix
5480 controllers are also used for the all Ethernet ports.
  6. Select
    Apply
    .
