Security policy considerations
Keep the following considerations in mind when using
FactoryTalk Administration Console
to configure product policies and securable actions:- Security settings are obtained from theFactoryTalkNetwork Directory.
- FactoryTalkLocal directory is not supported.
- FactoryTalk Services Platformversion 2.50 (SR5) or later supports associating the project with a specificFactoryTalk Directory.
- FactoryTalk Services Platformversion 2.80 or later supports Permission Sets and the ability to configure Guest User permissions.
- Product Policies are not tied to a specific project, and include, among others, the following policies:
- Securing the controller.
- Creating a new project, either through the New Controller dialog box, or through the Translator Tool utility.
- Updating firmware.
- Securable Actions provide permission for performing specific tasks on a specific project or group of projects, and include, among others, the following actions:
- Viewing a project.
- Going online.
- Creating tags.
- Creating modules.
- Creating tag-based alarms.
- In a safety controller project, you can specify additional protection to safety components. For example, to create a safety program, you need to have access granted for both of the following securable actions:
- Safety: Modify Component.
- Program: Create.
