Proven methods exist for tuning individual PID controllers for improved performance. These methods require practitioners to bump the process as the initial step. The resulting data is then used to model the process’ behavior and to calculate optimal tuning coefficients. Though repeatable, this approach to plant-wide optimization assumes: 1) that practitioners know which of their facility’s PID controller require attention, and 2) that they have the time needed to complete the task. Control loop performance monitoring (CLPM) solutions proactively capitalize on data warehoused within FactoryTalk Historian and associated with everyday output changes. As proxies for bump test data, these output changes make it possible for CLPM solutions calculate optimal tunings for all of a production facility’s numerous PID control loops.
During this webinar, Dr. Bob Rice will review a simple, repeatable approach for modeling and tuning individual PID controllers before showing how CLPM solutions leverage historized data to simultaneously tune 100s if not 1000s of controllers.
