MILWAUKEE, October 28, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK) is known for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Attracting, developing, and retaining people with disabilities is part of that effort.
“Often the first things that come to mind when you talk about inclusion and diversity are gender and race, but that includes people with disabilities, too,” said Rockwell’s Rachel Schickowski, employee engagement manager. She was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a condition that limits joint movement, and has increasingly shared more about her disability.
Schickowski is a member of the company’s ROKability employee resource group (ERG). The group’s mission is to promote and celebrate the achievements and victories of all abilities. Through shared information, organizational awareness, outreach, education, and collaboration, the ERG’s goal is to drive systemic change in Rockwell and beyond.
As the U.S. observes National Disability Employment Awareness Month throughout October, it’s worth noting that membership in ROKability has grown to 120 members in just two years.
“At any moment in time, any of us can become disabled – and that makes this ERG unique from many of the others at the company. It could potentially apply to anyone here,” said ROKability President Jason Sprunk, who serves as Rockwell’s director of Global Revenue Management Systems Management and Operations. His membership interest stems from caregiving for his elderly, disabled parents. “I’d like employees to know where to turn for help, community support, and advocacy should they ever need it.
“We want Rockwell Automation to be successful in acquiring and retaining talent that includes those with physical or neuro disabilities,” Sprunk added. “We know that folks with disabilities are looking for employment – and we want them to find it with us, where they feel safe and empowered to be themselves.”
