Manually tune an axis

Use the
Manual Tune
dialog box to manually tune gains for optimum drive servo loop performance. Perform a manual tune if the software calculation defaults and the Autotune results are not acceptable. Changes to the data in the panel are immediately committed.
Before you begin:
  • In the
    General
    page, in the
    Axis Configuration
    box, select
    Position Loop
    or
    Velocity Loop
. Manual tuning only applies to these two application types.
To manually tune an axis:
  1. Access the
    Manual Tune
    dialog box:
    • Right-click the axis in the motion group and click
      Manual Tune
      .
    • Click
      Manual Tune
      on the bottom of the
      Axis Properties
      dialog box.
  2. In
    System Bandwidth
, type a value or move the slider to enter the overall bandwidth of the drive's servo loop.
  3. In
    System Damping
, type a value or move the slider to enter the overall damping of drive's servo loop.
  4. In Tuning Configuration, click + to display the current
    Application Type
    ,
    Coupling
    and
    Gains to Tune
    settings.
  5. If the
    Axis Configuration
    is set to
    Position Loop
    , under
    Position Loop
, configure the position loop and integrator bandwidth, select to enable or disable the integrator hold and the error tolerance for the position loop.
  6. If the
    Axis Configuration
    is set to
    Velocity Loop
    , under
    Velocity Loop
, configure the velocity loop and integrator bandwidth, select to enable or disable the integrator hold and the error tolerance for the velocity loop.
  7. Click
    Additional Tune
to configure feedforward, compensation, filters, limits and planner tuning options.
  8. Click
    Reset
to return the values to the state they were in at the time the Manual Tune dialog box opened.
