A growing dialogue is sweeping the industrial landscape to a greater extent each year. The impact industry has on climate change is significant and most companies are taking steps to address this growing concern. But how do manufacturers know that they have implemented the level of digital maturity to the extent that digital technologies and processes are integrated and effectively used? Company leaders are realizing there is more than just stewardship at stake including the desire to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas, water consumption and waste generated. There is a solid financial impact affected by tightening margins and growing competition that is becoming more challenging each fiscal quarter, let alone each year.

In the context of industrial energy management, a higher level of digital maturity can lead to more efficient and sustainable practices.

When considering key metrics of success be sure to consider incorporating:

  • Data-driven Decision-Making: A more robust digital solution enables the collection, analysis and interpretation of large sets of data from various sources. This data can be crucial for making informed decisions regarding energy consumption, identifying inefficiencies and optimizing processes.
  • Energy Monitoring and Control: Advanced sensors, IoT devices and automation technologies can be integrated into industrial processes to monitor and control energy usage in real-time. This level of control allows for immediate adjustments and optimization, contributing to energy efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Digital systems can assist in monitoring and achieving compliance with environmental regulations. This reduces the risk of non-compliance penalties and fosters a proactive approach to sustainability.
  • Lifecycle Assessment (LCA): Energy management solutions allow for a comprehensive analysis of the environmental impact of products or processes throughout their lifecycle. This understanding helps in making informed decisions about resource usage and waste reduction.

Often, when a company is looking for better energy management, the marketplace can be a challenging landscape to navigate. Also, resources may be a challenge to dedicate for sustainability initiatives considering the metrics you want to achieve. Where do you go to for expert help?

At Rockwell Automation, we partner with select system integrators to help you navigate solutions and confirm you are not in this alone. One of our solution providers, InControl Systems Ltd., a company based in the UK that’s helping manufacturers implement integrated energy management solutions, is a great example. Their team understands the impact on your business and the needs of industry as well as the challenges that energy reduction and waste output has upon cost savings and environmental initiatives.

When we asked Pat Nash, Managing Director at InControl Systems, about the importance of having an expert solution provider on the team, he said, “From ideation to completed implementation and post-deployment support, having a provider that puts customers in control of every aspect of their project results in immediate positive outcomes: increasing productivity, delivering consistency and quality, efficiency in activities and safer working environments. The clients we work with can quickly realize ROI and transform their business models.”

As company leaders continue to look for technology to make a significant dent in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, taking advantage of expanding energy management technology is critical to understanding where you are contributing to sustainability, and where you might find additional opportunities to reduce your energy consumption and carbon footprint.
