Create a continuous task

Create a task to run continuously. Any CPU time not allocated to other operations (such as motion, communication, and periodic or event tasks) is used to run the programs within the continuous task. After the continuous task scans a program, an output update triggers and the task scans the next program. A project does not require a continuous task.
FactoryTalk Design Studio
 pre-scans inhibited tasks.
  1. On the explorer bar, select Execution icon
    Execution

  2. Right-click the controller and select
    New task
    .
  3. In
    New task
    , complete:
    • Name
      . Enter the name of the task.
    • Description
      . Enter a description of what the task does.
    • Type
      . Select
      Continuous
      .
    • Watchdog
      . Enter the time the task runs before a controller fault occurs.
    • (optional)
      Disable automatic output processing
      . Position the switch to Toggle On Position
      On
      to help prevent external output modules from updating the data table values of the controller at the end of the task scan. Position the switch to Switch Disabled icon
      Off
      to enable updates.
    • (optional)
      Inhibit task
      . Position the switch to Toggle On Position
      On
      to help prevent the controller from performing this task. Position the switch to witch Disabled icon
      Off
      to enable the controller to perform this task.
  4. Select
    Create
    .
  5. Expand the
    Tasks
    folder to view the new task.
