Motor page

Use the
Motor
page to select the data source to enter information about the motor or drive.
NOTE: The parameters available on the
Motor
page depend on the
Data Source
and
Motor Type
.
TIP:
To open the Motor page:
  1. In the
    Controller Organizer
    , expand the
    Motion Groups
    folder, and double-click an axis.
  2. From the
    Axis Properties
    dialog box, in
    Categories
    , click
    Motor
    .
Parameter
Description
Data Source
Specifies the data source where the motor configuration values originate.
The available data sources are:
  • Nameplate Datasheet
    - Motor configuration values from a motor nameplate and datasheet.
  • Catalog Number
    - Motor configuration values from a catalog number.
  • Drive NV
    - Motor configuration values from the nonvolatile memory of a drive.
  • Motor NV
    - Motor configuration values from the nonvolatile memory of a motor.
Select
Nameplate Datasheet
to enable the
Nameplate/Datasheet
parameter section and configure motor options.
Tip:
The
Nameplate / Datasheet - Phase to Phase
parameters changes based on the motor type selection. Similar entry fields also map to different attributes.
The
Nameplate/Datasheet
parameters are only available when selecting the
Nameplate Datasheet
data source.
The options for
Data Source
vary by drive. The motor data resets to the default settings when changing the data source value.
Catalog Number
Identifies the current motor catalog number.
If
Data Source
is set to
Catalog Number
, this field is read only and displays the catalog number selected from the
Change Catalog Number
dialog box. If
Data Source
is set to a value other than
Catalog Number
, this control is set to
<none>
.
The
TrackMoverMotor
or
TrackSection
Catalog Number:
  • Assigns the motor from the drive profile. This sets the
    Data Source
to read only and disables the change catalog button.
All datasheet entry fields are read only. When
Data Source
is set to
Motor NV
, the applicable parameters display in the
Nameplate/Datasheet - Phase to Phase
parameters section.
Select a catalog number that matches the motor associated with this axis. Select the
Parameters
button to view the
Motion Axis Parameters
associated with that catalog number in the motion database.
Change Catalog
Opens the
Change Catalog Number
dialog box. Use the
Change Catalog Number
dialog box to select a different catalog number for the motor.
The
Change Catalog
button appears dimmed if
Data Source
is set to a value other than
Catalog Number
.
Motor Type
Select the type of motor that is associated with this axis. This parameter is enabled when
Data Source
is set to
Nameplate Datasheet
.
If
Data Source
is set to
Catalog Number
,
Motor Type
appears dimmed and is read-only. The motor type associated with the catalog number is defined in the motion database.
If
Catalog Number
is set to
<none>
,
Motor Type
is set to
Not Specified
.
If
Data Source
is set to
Drive NV
or
Motor NV
,
Motor Type
is set to
Not Specified
.
If
Motor Type
is enabled, the options are:
  • Not Specified
  • Rotary Permanent Magnet
  • Rotary Induction
  • Linear Permanent Magnet
  • Linear Induction
  • Rotary Interior Permanent Magnet
The options available for
Motor Type
may be limited based on the drive selected.
Units
Displays the measurement units used for the selected motor type.
Units
is enabled when
Data Source
is set to
Drive NV
or
Motor NV
. When
Data Source
is set to
Catalog Number
, the units are set from the motor database.
If
Units
is enabled, the options are:
  • Rev
    - Used for rotary motors. Measures number of revolutions.
  • Meter
    - Used for linear motors
Nameplate/Datasheet - Phase to Phase parameters
The
Nameplate/Datasheet
section of the page changes based on the
Motor Type
selection. Also, similar entry fields may be mapped to different attributes.
Tip:
These controls only display when a motor type has been selected.
Rated Power
Specifies the nameplate rated power for the motor in kilowatt (Kw) units.
Rated Voltage
Specifies the nameplate AC voltage rating of the motor in volts (RMS).
Rated Speed
Specifies the nameplate rated speed of the motor. The units are reported in meters per second (m/s).
Rated Current
Specifies the rated current of the motor in amps (RMS).
Rated Force
Specifies the nameplate continuous force of a linear permanent magnet motor.
The units are reported in newtons (N).
Rated Torque
For the Rotary Permanent Magnet motor type, specifies the rated torque in N-m units.
Pole Count
For Rotary Permanent Magnet and Rotary Induction motor types, specifies the pole count of the motor.
Pole Pitch
Specifies the pole pitch of a linear motor.
The units are reported in millimeters (mm).
Track Mover Length
The physical length in meters (m) of a mover. Use the physical length measurement for programming multiple movers on the track.
Rated Frequency
Specifies the nameplate frequency rating of an induction motor in Hertz (Hz).
Max Speed
Specifies the maximum safe speed of the motor in RPMs.
The units are reported in meters per seconds (m/s).
Peak Current
Specifies the peak or intermittent current rating of the motor in amps (RMS).
Motor Overload Limit
Specifies the maximum thermal overload limit for the motor. The value, which is typically 100%, corresponds to the power dissipated when operating at the continuous rating of the motor.
Extended Speed Permissive
Determines whether the Bus Overvoltage Speed Limit is applied to the velocity limiter. Select the check box to remove the velocity limit protection against Bus Overvoltage conditions associated with permanent magnetic motors. Clear the check box to enable the velocity limit protection.
Bus Overvoltage Speed
Limits the magnitude of the velocity reference value allowed into the velocity summing junction to protect drive from damage from bus overvoltage conditions that can occur when disabling a moving permanent magnetic motor.
If the signal entering the velocity limiter exceeds the velocity limit value, and the
Extended Speed Permissive
check box is cleared, the velocity limiter clamps the velocity reference to this value and sets the Velocity Limit status bit. If the
Extended Speed Permissive
check box is selected, or the value of this attribute is 0, this limit is not applied. The units are reported in meters per seconds (m/s).
This parameter is read-only.
Max Extended Speed
Establishes a limit on the magnitude of the velocity reference value allowed into the velocity summing junction to protect the motor from damage due to an over-speed condition. The units are reported in meters/second (m/s).
