Open a project
Open projects from a local folder, a network share, or a source repository.
- In the main toolbar, selector openProjectFactoryTalk Optix Studio.The Start page opens.
- On the left, selectOpen.
- At the top of the Start page, select either:
- Recent. Select or browse to select the project to open and then selectOpen.TIP: When opening a recent project, near the top of the Start page afterFilter, selectAllorLocalorRemote. Select the arrow to toggle the order of the list based on the last modified date and time.TIP: To browse to a project, navigate to and select a project file (.optix), or exported project file (.optixz). To browse to an Optix template, navigate toC:\Users\Username\Documents\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\ProjectTemplatesto select the Optix template file (.optixt), or exported Optix template file (.optixt.z) file to open. For more information about exporting to files, see Export a project.
- Remote. SelectRemoteto select the project to open, or enter a URL to access a remote project:
- Remote URL. Enter the URL of your remote repository. The URL location that stores the file remotely. If you do not know the URL, ask your System Administrator.
- Location. Enter the folder on your local computer where to save and commit changes before pushing changes to the remote repository.TIP: Selectto browse to a project. You cannot change the location of Optix templates.Browse filesTIP: If you sign in toFactoryTalk Optixand a supported version control solution, the Start page automatically displays all of the potential repositories that you can access with your version control account and all of the projects that you can open. Logging into a version control solution andFactoryTalk® Hub™synchronizes the repositories list. For more information, see Configure version control.
- SelectOpen.Opening project from remoteappears in the status bar and the project or Optix template opens with the same name as the remote repository.
- Upload from device. Select the device to upload the project to the development computer, selectConnect, and then:
- If required, enter the password.
- (optional) Select the files to upload.TIP: Select optional files to upload from the device. For example, select files created at runtime, such as retentivity storage, databases, and so on.
- (optional) Change the destination.
- SelectOK.

- If the project is encrypted with a password, either:
- Enter the password and selectConfirm.
- SelectContinue without password.
- If the project secrets are stored in remote key store, selectSign Inin the toolbar and then either:
- Sign in with MyRockwelland sign in with yourFactoryTalk HubEmailandPassword.
- Sign in with SSOand sign in with your SSO credentials.
TIP: You need to be a part of a relevantFactoryTalk Huborganization to use the project secrets. - If the project or Optix template was created using a previousFactoryTalk Optix Studioversion, selectUpgradeto upgrade and open the project or Optix template.
The project or Optix template opens. If the project or Optix template was already open, a new instance of
FactoryTalk Optix Studio
