Import/Paste Configuration Dialog - Configure Add-On Instruction References Overview

Use this dialog box to view and configure Add-On Instruction references for the import and for pasting the configuration into a project using the
Paste Special > With Configuration
command.
Add-On Instruction references are represented in the Import Content tree by the Add-On Instructions item found under the References folder. When the Add-On Instructions item is selected, the Details pane displays the Add-On Instructions referenced in the import content. The list includes any Add-On Instructions directly referenced by any imported logic, tags, and User-Defined Data Types, as well as indirectly referenced Add-On Instructions (those referenced by other User-Defined Data Types and Add-On Instructions).
Add-On Instructions are read-only when the Add-On Instruction in the import file is source-protected and the proper source key is not available (prevents a modification of the Add-On Instruction name).
Parameters
Row Header
The part of the grid that provides an indication of the condition of the component that was imported, as follows:
Import_Configuration_dialog_warning_flag_without_astericks
Indicates why the component needs attention. Hover the cursor over the red flag icon and a tool tip displays and indicates the reason for the messages.
Import_Configuration_dialog_warning_flag
Indicates that the content of the row has changed.
fixed_product_safety_warning
Indicates a safety warning.
Import Name
Displays the name of the component as read from the import file.
Operation
Identifies what is done with this component upon import.
The field is pre-populated; however, you can choose from a pull-down list of valid choices.
IMPORTANT:
If the imported Add-On Instruction has the same name as an existing Add-On Instruction and is not imported (existing Add-On Instruction is used), then tag data for any tags imported of this Add-On Instruction are converted and values are possibly lost.
Note that when online with the controller, overwrite is not an available choice in the Operation pull-down menu for Add-On Instructions because existing Add-On Instructions cannot be overwritten online.
Overwrite is an available choice if the existing Add-On Instruction in the project is source protected because the software deletes the original protected Add-On Instruction and adds a new unprotected one. Overwrite is also an available choice for a source-protected Add-On Instruction that is referenced, even if it is referenced from another source-protected Add-On Instruction.
For more information, see
Import Configuration Operations
.
Final Name
The final name is the name as it appears in the project after the import (if the Operation is not Discard). Changing the Final Name changes the name in all places where this component is referenced in the import content (throughout the logic and in any components that reference it).
You may modify the final name during configuration (if the Add-On Instruction in the import file is not source-protected).
If you change the final name, then you change the references in the imported logic and components to that new name. This is true even if you select Discard or Use Existing as the Operation.
If you modify the name and this Add-On Instruction is created or overwrites the existing one, it causes the Last Edit Date of this Add-On Instruction to update during import.
When you click in the Final Name cell, a pull-down menu appears, which provides a list of all the existing Add-On Instructions in the project.
TIP:
  • Tip: If you press the Esc key before
you apply your edits, the previous value is restored.
  • If you press the Esc key after you apply your edits, the dialog box closes, the import is canceled, and you lose your work.
IMPORTANT:
You may either create or avoid a collision by modifying the final name, (based on if you modify the final name to match that of an existing final name in the project). Modifying the final name so that it is different from the import name causes logic references to update.
Revision
Displays major revision, minor revision, and extended text.
Revision Note
Displays the revision note of the Add-On Instruction.
Description
Displays the description of the Add-On Instruction.
For Add-On Instructions, Description appears dimmed when the Add-On Instruction in the import file is source-protected.
Note that modifying the description during import causes the Last Edit Date of the Add-On Instruction to update during import.
Messages
Pay particular attention to warnings that appear in the area below the grid.
