As the world is becomes increasingly digital, organizations are making cybersecurity a top priority. With more than 2,200 cyberattacks per day, it takes a special kind of professional to keep up and stay ahead of cybercriminals.
Every 39 seconds a cyber-attack takes place worldwide, so security technologies and the capability of people able to use the tools and training to thwart cyberattacks is a just-in-time proposition. There’s always something new to learn to stay ahead of the growing, sophisticated attacks.
The need is urgent, as global cybercrime costs are expected to grow by 15% per year over the next five years, reaching $10.5 trillion annually by 2025.
This volatile climate has created a demand for knowledgeable professionals who can help businesses be better aware and better protected from cybercrime. Because it’s not a matter of if there will be a breach, but rather when.
And while the statistics are unnerving, they also indicate unparalleled opportunity for those in the cybersecurity field to become even more valuable and relevant to a company’s success, as well as create unique careers.
The landscape
A comprehensive cybersecurity program is only as good as the people behind it. In industry, which is experiencing the convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology, (OT), how will organizations fend off cyberattacks?
Through continued investment in the people behind the work.
A solid cybersecurity program protects networks, systems, data, programs and devices from internal or external threats. Cybersecurity relies on artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to give cybersecurity professionals the ability to recognize and neutralize the threat before they negatively impact a business and its operations.

The opportunity
Acquisitions have been a big part of the strategy to strengthen Rockwell’s cybersecurity services offerings and portfolio. For example, Rockwell’s 2020 acquisition of Avnet Data Security, an Israeli-based cybersecurity provider with over 20 years of experience providing cybersecurity services, enhances the company’s ability to deliver IT/OT cybersecurity services globally.
Ofek Lahiani, security analyst who joined Rockwell with the Avnet acquisition, and Maty Fame, security consultant, both work in Cybersecurity Delivery and are part of the company’s fast-growing services business.
Every day for Ofek and Maty is different, full of problem-solving opportunities, challenging work, and career growth.
“A great salary is important, but to me, what’s even more valuable is the opportunity to always learn,” said Ofek. “Industrial companies are attractive targets for cybercriminals who get in through IT but then attack the OT side. The fight against cyber threats is unending and the landscape is constantly changing. My job is an opportunity to immerse myself in both OT and IT to gain unique knowledge and training.”
A ‘learn something new every day’ environment is perfect for Maty. “Being curious, wanting to know more, makes this job ideal for me,” Maty said. “ In the cyber space, you have procedures and playbooks to guide to respond to different threats but it’s just a guide. We need to think outside the box, ask questions, pay attention to detail and think on our own.”
“When I detect something, I know I’m potentially saving more than money, I could be saving lives,” Ofek added. “We act as the head and heart of the operations center, shutting down threats in real time.”
Maty is proud of the way she and her colleagues protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of automation systems. “We are appreciated not just by our company and our customers but by the communities who have electricity and safe water because we took action. We can work so quickly because there are no siloes of information here – we work seamlessly across time zones, across teams and across functions.”
The reward
Rockwell’s Threat Detection Managed Services supports customers with application-level, real-time monitoring, and response services to help detect, identify, contain, eradicate, and recover from a cyber incident.
