Configuration tab 1756-IF8 and 1756-IF16, floating point

Use the
Configuration
tab on the
Module Properties
dialog to configure the 1756-IF8 and 1756-IF16 non-isolated analog input modules, floating point mode. The configuration information for the module is stored in the controller. The controller configures the module.
Use the
Configuration
tab to:
  • Select the channel to configure
  • Enter scaling values
  • Enter a real time sample period
  • Enter an input range
  • Enter a calibration bias value
  • Select a digital filter time
  • Select a module filter frequency
Parameters
Select one of the channel buttons to display its information on this tab.
Scaling
  • Low Signal
    - Enter a low scaling value in signal units, Ohms or degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit when linearizing inputs. You must set this input point within the module default signal range. This value is scaled to Low Engineering value.
  • Low Engineering
    - Enter a value in user engineering units to which the Low Signal should be scaled. All values sent to/from the module are in engineering units.
  • High Signal
    - Enter a high scaling value in signal units, Ohms or degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit when linearizing inputs. You must set this input point within the module default signal range. This value is scaled to High Engineering value.
  • High Engineering
    - Enter a value in user engineering units to which the High Signal should be scaled. All values sent to/from the module are in engineering units.
RTS (Real Time Sample period)
Enter the time (in milliseconds) to indicate how often the module’s inputs are to be sampled.
There is only one RTS for the entire module (you can’t have a different one for each channel).
The RTS period controls how often the module prepares new readings. The Requested Packet Interval (RPI on the
Connection
tab) controls how often the module sends its current readings to the controller. Generally these two values should be similar so that each reading gets sent to the controller one time.
Input Range
Select the operating range of a specific channel.
  • -10 to 10 V
  • 0 to 5 V
  • 0 to 10 V
  • 0 to 20 mA
Calibration Bias
Enter an offset value. This value is added to the input during the calibration calculation to compensate for inaccuracies of the sensor.
Digital Filter
Select a filter time constant in milliseconds. This field is a first order lag filter that smooths input transitions.
Module Filter (-3 dB)
Select a frequency. This filter attenuates the selected frequency and its harmonics in the input signal. You can choose the filter frequency to filter out line noise.
There is only one Module Filter for the entire module (you can’t have a different value for each channel).
OK
Select this button to accept your edits on any tab and close the dialog.
Cancel
Select this button to cancel your edits on any tab and close the dialog.
Apply
Select this button to apply your edits on any tab and continue editing.
