Counter Configuration - 1756-HSC

Use this tab to configure counters for Channel 0 and Channel 1 of the 1756-HSC module.
Parameters
Tip:
These parameter definitions are the same for both channels, with specific values applying to their respective channels.
Operational Mode
Choose the mode to be used to read incoming pulses to the module. Choose from:
  • Counter Mode (default)
  • Encoder x1 Mode
  • Encoder x4 Mode
  • Counter Not Used
  • Frequency Mode
The 1756-HSC Series B module has additional modes to choose from:
  • Period Rate Mode
  • Continuous Rate Mode
Storage Mode
Choose the mode to be used to store counts, as well as counter behavior. Choose from:
  • No Store Mode (default)
  • Store and Continue Mode
  • Store, Wait, and Resume Mode
  • Store and Reset, Wait, and Start Mode
  • Store and Reset, and Start Mode
Rollover
Enter the value at which the counter will reset to 0 and begin counting again. Valid values range from 0 (default) to 16,777,214.
TIP:
This value must be 0 when Operational Mode is set to Frequency Mode in the 1756-HSC Series A module.
This value must be 0 when Operational Mode is set to Period Rate Mode or Continuous Rate Mode in the 1756-HSC Series B module.
Preset
Enter the channel preset value, from which the module begins counting. Valid values range from 0 (default) to 16,777,214.
IMPORTANT:
This value cannot be greater than the Rollover value.
TIP:
This value must be 0 when Operational Mode is set to Period Rate Mode or Continuous Rate Mode in the 1756-HSC Series B module.
Scaler
Enter the value at which to measure multiple input periods. This increases the accuracy of the measurement. The value you enter is based on your module and the Operational Mode setting.
For 1756-HSC Series A module:
  • The Scaler value is used only in Frequency mode.
  • Valid values range from 0 (default) to 2000 ms, in multiples of 10 ms.
  • This value must be set to 0 when Operational Mode is set to anything other than Frequency Mode.
For 1756-HSC Series B module:
  • If Operational Mode is set to Counter Mode, Encoder x1 Mode, Encoder x4 Mode, and Frequency Mode, enter a value between 0 (default) to 2000 ms, in multiples of 10 ms.
  • If Operational Mode is set to Periodic Rate Mode or Continuous Rate Mode, enter 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256.
  • If Operational Mode is set to Counter Not Used, this value must be 0.
Use Filter A

  • You have changed the module’s configuration in the software,
when you select
Apply
or
OK
, the information is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the information to the module (if the module’s connection is not inhibited). If you don’t select
