Module Properties Dialog Box - Backplane Tab Overview

Use this tab to:
  • View diagnostic information about the module’s communications over the backplane and the chassis in which it is located
  • Clear fault
    fault
A problem or error detected by the control system hardware or software. A fault is identified by an error code or an error bit.
Information on this tab is displayed only if you are online.
TIP:
If you selected a Listen-Only communication format when you created the module, this tab is not available.
module
A device, typically an I/O device, that communicates with the controller. The controller, a particular 1756-IB16I or a PanelView are all considered modules.
TIP:
The data on this tab comes directly from the module.
Parameters
ControlBus Status
Displays the OK or one of these errors:
  • Receiver disabled
  • Multicast addresses disabled
  • RA/GA miscompare
Clear Fault
Select this button to clear the module’s backplane fault.
ControlBus Parameters
Multicast CRC Error Threshold
Displays the threshold for entering a fault state due to multicast CRC errors.
cyclic redundancy check (CRC)
A Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) is an error checking technique used by computers.
Transmit Retry Limit
Select a transmit retry limit. This limit is the number of times a frame is retried if a transmit error occurs. This field has a range of 0-63; we recommend you use a value between:
  • 8-12 for isolated analog modules
  • 3-10 for all other analog modules
When you reset a module, this field is reset to its factory default.
Receive Error Counters
Displays:
  • Number of bad CRC errors that occurred on received frames (messages)
  • Number of receiver bus time-outs
  • Number of multicast receive CRC errors
Transmit Error Counters
Displays:
  • Number of bad CRC errors that occurred on transmitted frames
  • Number of transmitter bus time-outs
1756 Specialty I/O Modules and Adapters, Communications, and Controllers
Chassis Information
Displays:
  • Revision number of the chassis
  • Size of the chassis
  • Serial number of the chassis
  • Module’s slot number
    TIP:
This information remains blank in Module Match conditions for the 1756-HSC and 1756-PLS modules
Refresh
Select to refresh the tab. When you refresh the tab:
If you are using:
then:
digital, analog, or motion modules
counters are cleared
another module
the tab is refreshed but the counters are not cleared

If:
  • You are online in Program, Remote Program or Remote Run mode, and
  • This controller is the owner controller, and
    controller
A device that controls machines or processes elements (for example, a programmable controller or relay panel).
  • You have changed the module’s configuration in the software
then when you select
Apply
or
OK
, the information is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the information to the module (if the module’s connection is not inhibited). If you don’t select
Apply
, your changes are not sent to the controller.
