Fault/Idle Action FLEX I/O Digital

Use this tab to configure the safe state value for a module. You can use this tab for output or input/output Combo modules only. This tab does not appear for input modules.
safe state
The condition that an output module maintains in the event of a network communication error, or when the controller enters the program mode. When either of these situations occur, the outputs automatically switch to the configured state (for digitals) or to the value (for analogs).
Tip:
If you selected a Listen-Only communication format when you created the module, this tab is not available.
Parameters
Communication Fault Behavior
Select the way in which you want the adapter to respond when a ControlNet-based communication fault occurs with this module.
Choose from:
  • Reset Outputs
    - Returns the module output data to zero (default value).
  • Hold Last Outputs
    - Retains the module output data in its last state.
    Tip:
If you select this option, you cannot select Apply Safe State to Outputs in the Program Mode Behavior field below.
  • Apply Safe State to Outputs
    - Sets the output signals to the values configured as Safe State values.
    Tip:
If you select this option, you cannot select Hold Last Outputs in the Program Mode Behavior field below.
Program Mode Behavior
Select the way that you want the adapter to respond when it detects that the controller (or scanner) is in program mode (idle). You have three choices:
  • Reset Outputs
    - Returns the module output data to zero (default value).
  • Hold Last Outputs
    - Retains the module output data in its last state.
    Tip:
If you select this option, you cannot select Apply Safe State to Outputs in the Communication Fault Behavior field above.
  • Apply Safe State to Outputs
    - Sets the output signals to the values configured as Safe State values.
    Tip:
If you select this option, you cannot select Hold Last Outputs in the Communication Fault Behavior field above.
Tip:
The adapter detects the state of the controller or scanner. There are only two states that it detects: Run mode and
Run mode
The controller mode during which logic is executing, inputs are read, the program is scanned, and the outputs are energized and de-energized. Editing operations are restricted. If the keyswitch is in Remote, the controller is in Remote Run mode.
Program mode, When Run mode is detected, the adapter copies the output data from the controller to the corresponding module output. When Program mode is detected, you can configure the adapter to have one of the three above responses.
Program mode
The controller mode during which logic is not executing, outputs are not controlled, and editing operations are available. If the keyswitch is in Remote, the controller is in Remote Program mode.
Safe State Value
Select On or Off for each point. The default value is Off.
Tip:
You cannot use this feature unless you select "Apply Safe State to Outputs" in the Communications Fault Behavior or the Program Mode Behavior boxes.

If:
  • you are online in Program, Remote Program or Remote Run mode
  • this controller is the owner controller and,
    controller
A device that controls machines or processes elements (for example, a programmable controller or relay panel).
  • you have changed the module’s configuration in the software
when you click the Apply or the OK button, the configuration is automatically sent to the controller. The controller tries to send the configuration to the module (if the connection to the module is inhibited).
