Download

After a program is created in Logix Designer it must be transferred from the computer to the controller.
  • Upload - Transfers the program from the controller to the computer.
  • Download - Transfers the program from the computer to the controller.
Performing this task uses these items:

A hierarchical representation of a network topology that is rooted at a specific server host device.
Who Active
Who Active
is a communication software edition network browser. Use the
Who Active
dialog box to navigate network topologies and configure access methods used to communicate with devices. Both the
RSLinx Classic

communication software editions are included with
Studio 5000 Logix Designer
. Select an edition to launch in the
Who Active
dialog box by navigating to
Communications > Select Communication Software
dialog box and selecting
RSLinx Classic
or
FactoryTalk Linx
.
Communication Path
This is the CIP path that identifies the communications drive, the device address, and port. It is used by
Studio 5000 Logix Designer
when executing a Go Online, Upload, or Download command.
Program mode
The controller mode during which logic is not executing, outputs are not controlled, and editing operations are available. If the keyswitch is in Remote, the controller is in Remote Program mode.
To download a program
  1. Select
    Communications >
    Who Active
    .
    The communication software launches in the
    Who Active
    dialog and displays the communications tree.
  2. Select a controller from the tree.
  3. Select
    Set Project Path
    to always use this communications path with this project.
  4. Select
    Download
    .
    Confirm the download procedure. Since the communications path is configured, the download works immediately, and the project is downloaded to the controller. Download status and compiler messages appear in the status bar.
    TIP:
    The controller must be in Program mode or Remote Program mode before downloading the project.
