Controller Properties dialog box - General tab settings
The
General
settings on the Controller Properties
dialog box define the name, vendor, description, revisions of the controller, and other physical properties of the controller. Settings that do not apply to the controller are hidden.
The ability to change the settings on this tab can be controlled by

permissions.Parameter | Description |
Vendor | The name of the controller's manufacturer. |
Type | The catalog number and description of the controller. When online, the catalog number of the memory card (if any) is included. |
Revision | The major and minor revisions of the controller. If the project has never been downloaded to the controller, this field displays the minimum minor revision required in order to download. Once a project is downloaded to the controller, this field displays the minor revision of the controller. |
Name | The name of the controller. The name must be IEC_1131 compliant. If an invalid character is entered in this field, or if the name exceeds 40 characters, the software ignores the character. The name cannot be changed when online. When the project is created, this is the name of the project file. If the name is changed, the name of the project file does not change. To keep the two the same, then rename the project file using Windows Explorer or select Save As from the File menu in the Logix Designer application. |
Description | A description for the controller, up to 128 characters. If the description exceeds the maximum length, the software ignores any extra characters. The description can be downloaded to the controller and can be added, changed, and deleted when online. |
Chassis Type | The chassis type in which the controller resides. The chassis type cannot be changed when online. This parameter is not available for CompactLogix and Compact GuardLogix controllers since these controllers do not have a physical chassis. |
Expansion I/O | The number of local input and output modules for the controller. When counting the number of input and output modules, do not include the 1769-L1x controller or the single embedded Point I/O module in the count. This parameter is available only for 1769-L1x CompactLogix controllers.
IMPORTANT:
The Expansion I/O must match the number of physical Expansion I/O modules or the controller cannot connect to any local I/O. |
Slot | The chassis slot number in which the controller resides. The slot number can only be changed when the controller is offline. In ControlLogix , controllers occupy a numbered slot in the chassis and can be placed in any slot. It is also possible to place multiple controllers in the same chassis. For CompactLogix and Compact GuardLogix Safety controllers, because the controller always resides in slot 0, this field is unavailable, and slot number 0 is displayed. For GuardLogix 5570 Safety controllers, valid values range from 0 to two less than the number of slots in the chassis (for example, in a 10-slot chassis, valid values range from 0 to 8.) For GuardLogix 5580 Safety controllers, the range depends on the safety level:
|
Safety Partner Slot | The location of the Safety Partner for the GuardLogix 5570 Safety controller and the GuardLogix 5580 Safety controller when the safety level is SIL3/PLe. These controllers require two slots: 1 for the Primary controller, and 1 for the Safety Partner. These slots must be side by side, with the partner always in the slot to the right of the primary controller. This parameter is read-only and the value is always equal to the value you entered in the Slot plus 1. For example, if you entered a value of 1 in Slot , the Safety Partner Slot value is equal to 2.
TIP:
Depending on the controller and the safety level, the Safety Partner Slot displays <N/A> if there is no safety partner or <Internal> if the safety partner is internal. |
Change Controller | Opens the Change Controller Type dialog box to change the controller to another controller, or change the revision within the same platform (for example, changing from a 1769-L33ER controller to a 1769-L36ERM controller) or to another platform.Attention: A safety controller cannot change to a standard controller if the project contains safety Add-On Instructions. Either convert the safety Add-On Instructions to standard Add-On Instructions or delete the safety Add-On Instructions from the project. |
EtherNet/IP Mode | Shows the EtherNet/IP Mode for the Ethernet ports on the controller. This parameter is available only for controllers that support one or more configurable Ethernet port pairs, for example, the CompactLogix 5380 and CompactLogix 5480 controllers.
|
Change IP Mode | Opens the Change EtherNet/IP Mode dialog box to change the EtherNet/IP Mode setting. This setting is available only for controllers that support one or more configurable Ethernet port pairs, and when the controller is offline. |
