System explorer

Use the
System
explorer to focus on the logical design of your project. Create FactoryTalk Smart Object elements to create tags, programs, and routines. The logic in the Smart Objects defines the behavior of an item in a system or a plant.
Reuse Smart Objects by adding them to the
Library
explorer for modeling a system or plant. For example, create a Smart Object for a tank in a large plant. You can then reuse the same Smart Objects for all tanks in the system instead of creating logic for each tank. Complete the design of the system and then allocate the Smart Objects to a controller in the
Execution
explorer.
When you go online with a controller, additional status indicators appear in the
System
explorer. These indicators can appear next to a Smart Object or any of its elements.
Online and Offline indicators
  • The offline only indicator appears if a Smart Object or any of its elements are allocated to the online controller but have not been deployed.
  • The online only indicator appears if a Smart Object or any of its elements have been allocated to the online controller but are not present in the offline project.
  • If a green rail illuminates without online only or offline only indicators, then the element exists in both the offline project and the online controller.
  • If no icon or green rail illuminates, then the element is not allocated or deployed to the online controller.
TIP: Online and offline only indicators appear based on how elements are named. When no icons appear, the contents of a routine may vary between the offline project and the online controller.
TIP: Some context menu commands are not available for elements that are online only. These commands are disabled in the context menu.
TIP: When moving elements that exist online and offline, the old location displays the online-only icon and the new location displays the offline-only icon.
TIP: Renaming an element that exists online and offline causes the component to appear twice in the tree. The old name appears next to the online-only icon. The new appears next to an offline-only icon.
