Connection configuration options

TIP:
To open the
Connection Configuration
dialog:
  • In the Tag Editor's
    Connection
column, put the cursor in the cell of the connection you wish to view and then select the Browse dots button.
    - Or -
  • In the
    Tag Properties
    dialog, select the
    Open Parameter Connections
    check box.
Use the grid table provided in the
Connection Configuration
dialog to view, create, delete, and modify connections between parameters, controller scoped tags, and their members. The
Connection Configuration
dialog is helpful for viewing and configuring multiple connections.
The leftmost part of the grid provides an icon that indicates the condition of the connection:
Icon
Description
*
Row in which content changed and the change is not saved.
LogDesPPErrorIcon
Row with error in the content. Fix the error before downloading the project to the controller.
LogDesPPNewIcon
Row in which to create a connection.
Use the keyboard to navigate in the
Parameters and Connections
grid.
This table describes the settings on this dialog:
Setting
Description
Name
Shows the name of the connection endpoint.
You have the option to edit the name of the connection endpoint.
If you want to create a connection, locate the create icon LogDesPPNewIconat the bottom of the grid and enter the name of the connection endpoint in the Name field.
Usage
Shows the usage type (Local, Input, Output, InOut, Public, or <controller>) of the connection endpoint.
Important: A single part (member, element, or bit) of a program’s Input parameter cannot have multiple connections.
Data Type
Shows the data type of an endpoint tag or structure member.
Alias For
If an endpoint tag is an alias, this column shows the target tag (the tag that contains the datatype definition for an alias tag). These attributes of the alias tag are copied from its base tag:
  • Class (Standard/Safety)
  • Data Type
  • External Access
  • Constant
  • Value
  • Description (If a description is not provided, the pass-through description (the description of the next highest item in the tag hierarchy) is copied, if applicable.)
Base Tag
Shows the last link in an alias chain. This is the tag that contains the datatype definition.
Description
Contains the description, if any, for each endpoint tag or structure, array, or bit member.
If pass-through descriptions are enabled and an explicit description for a tag is not provide, one of these options occurs:
  • The base tag’s description is shown if the tag is an alias.
  • The defined data type’s member description is shown if the tag is a member.
  • The base tag's description is shown if the tag is a bit, array element, or member.
  • The defined base data type's description is shown.
If supplied, a description for the selected item appears in this column.
External Access
Indicates whether the endpoint tag has Read/Write, Read Only, or no access (None) from external applications such as HMIs.
Constant
Indicates whether logic is prevented from writing values to the associated endpoint tag or parameter. If a logic routine tries to write to a constant tag, the routine will not verify.
