FactoryTalk® Optix in a Rockwell Automation system

FactoryTalk Optix Studio is an integrated development environment with a framework of functional modules for designing and compiling HMI or Internet of Things (IoT) applications. FactoryTalk Optix Studio includes a library of predefined objects that support the modular design of graphical interfaces, features, and logic operations of an HMI application. By using specific C# language scripts, you can automate various actions in the design phase and add customized functions to projects.
FactoryTalk Optix Studio is available as a web and a desktop development environment that you use to build FactoryTalk Optix Applications and deploy them to client systems. You access FactoryTalk Optix Studio web editor through FactoryTalk Hub.
You develop and compile FactoryTalk Optix Applications in FactoryTalk Optix Studio. The compiled applications can be deployed to Windows® or Linux client systems, or closed Rockwell Automation devices such as the OptixPanel or Embedded Edge Compute.
When finding the right architecture to use in a system compliant with 21 CFR Part 11, it is important to establish how the system and its data will be maintained in operation. For out-of-the-box solutions for securing access, closed Rockwell Automation devices, such as the OptixPanel and Embedded Edge Compute are designed to limit access to the devices operating system and files. In some cases, it may be preferred to leverage internal IT systems for standardized data security and management policies. Here, FactoryTalk® Optix enables integration to systems maintained by an IT administrator so that the appropriate IT procedural and automated controls can be implemented. In the case of Windows® or Linux client systems, IT would be responsible for deploying the appropriate policies and permissions to limit access.
