Delete items from the Controller Organizer

Use the
Delete
command to remove an item from the
Controller Organizer
. Deleting an item also deletes its descendants (defined in the
Logical Organizer
).
TIP: If FactoryTalk Security is enabled, FactoryTalk Security permissions are required to create and delete items in the
Controller Organizer
and the
Logical Organizer
.
Before you begin:
If the controller is online, satisfy these conditions before deleting an item.
Items
Conditions
Task
No programs are scheduled for the task.
Program
The controller is not locked or in Hard Run mode.
The program and all of its descendants do not have safety restrictions.
The program does not have redundancy restrictions or security restrictions.
Routine
Cannot delete a routine if:
  • The controller is in Remote Test or Remote Run and the routine is the Main, Fault, Prestate (equipment phase), or State (equipment) routine.
  • The routine is referenced by a Jump to Subroutine (JSR).
Motion Group
No preliminary steps required.
When a motion group is deleted, any axes assigned to the motion group are moved to the
Ungrouped Axes
branch.
Axis
No preliminary steps required.
User-Defined Data Type
The UDT is not referenced.
The controller is not in Hard Run mode.
I/O Module
Modules that are referenced by program logic cannot be deleted while online. To delete a module that is referenced by program logic, either remove the reference to the module or go offline and delete the module.
TIP:
When the controller is offline, a module with child modules can be deleted without first deleting the child modules. The child modules must meet these criteria:
  • The child modules are not safety modules.
  • The parent module is not safety locked.

To delete an item from the Controller Organizer
  1. Right-click the item, and then choose
    Delete
    .
  2. Choose
    Yes
    to confirm the deletion.
    TIP:
    Can also delete an item by selecting it and then using one of the following methods:
    • From the
      Menu
      bar, select
      Edit > Delete
      .
    Press the
    Delete
    key.
