Optimize Brewing Production to Ensure Quality

In the brewing industry, achieving quality and consistency are top priorities. Your digital transformation is central to optimizing production without sacrificing quality and flavor. Complex production requires end-to-end visibility — from inventory management and process control (recipe, batch, and tank management) through conveyance and packaging. This is why a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a critical tool for breweries to enable traceability and plant-wide connectivity.

With the Plex Manufacturing Execution System, you unify operations under one common production ecosystem that drives visibility, enables cost savings, and increases productivity.

Discover how Plex MES delivers real results and helps boost brewery profitability.

Achieve Accurate, Consistent Filling

Accurate and consistent filling is crucial for optimal production. Finely tuned filling equipment and processes can significantly improve plant output and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). However, inconsistencies and inaccuracies in filling can lead to product giveaway, costly rework, higher regulatory risk, and lost revenue.

Achieve accurate and consistent filling with LogixAI® for Perfect Fill, a digital filling solution powered by AI. This technology integrates easily into your Logix PLC and builds a model to predict the weight of product being filled in each container. Deployed at the edge, it senses and predicts variables on your filling lines and reduces fill variation.

Explore the capabilities of digital fill optimization for your brewery — like 99% fill accuracy and greater than 50% reduction of product giveaway.

What is Brewery Automation?

Brewery automation refers to the use of advanced technology and control systems to streamline and optimize the beer brewing process. This includes automating tasks such as monitoring temperatures, regulating fermentation conditions, controlling ingredient additions, and managing cleaning cycles.

By integrating sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and brewery production software, breweries can achieve greater consistency, efficiency, and scalability in production while reducing human error and labor costs. Automation can range from simple temperature controls in small craft breweries to fully integrated systems in large-scale operations that manage every step from grain milling to packaging.

What are the Benefits of Brewery Automation?

When deployed, brewery automation systems provide a wide range of benefits. These can include:

  • Consistency and quality control: Automation ensures that each batch of beer is produced under the same precise conditions, leading to consistent flavor, aroma, and quality, which is critical for building and maintaining brand reputation.
  • Increased efficiency and productivity: Automated systems can perform repetitive tasks faster and more accurately than humans, reducing brewing times and increasing output without compromising quality.
  • Reduced labor costs: By automating manual processes, breweries can minimize the need for hands-on labor, allowing staff to focus on more skilled tasks like quality assurance, recipe development, or customer service.
  • Data collection and process optimization: Brewery automation systems collect valuable data on every aspect of production, helping brewers analyze and optimize processes, detect issues early, and make informed decisions for continuous improvement.
  • Enhanced cleanliness and compliance: Automated cleaning-in-place (CIP) systems and precise control over sanitation protocols help maintain hygiene standards, reduce contamination risk, and ensure compliance with food and safety regulations.

Types of Automated Brewery Systems

Brewery automation systems can include a variety of technologies and software solutions that manage different stages of the brewing process. Some common examples include:

  • Brewhouse control systems
  • Fermentation monitoring systems
  • CIP systems
  • Packaging line automation
  • Recipe management and brewery ERP software

These systems can work independently or be integrated into a larger, centralized brewery management platform for full production visibility and control.
