User interface

Use
FactoryTalk Design Studio
to create a project and arrange the user interface to depict your system.
FactoryTalk Design Studio
provides a user-friendly interface for designing and managing your project. The interface is divided into several sections, each with a specific purpose. Use the
View
menu to display or hide these user interface objects:
  • Explorer bar
. The Explorer bar is located on the left side of the interface by default. Use the Explorer bar to navigate through the different explorers (System, Devices, Execution, and Library). Each explorer provides different functionalities. For example, use the System explorer to create
    FactoryTalk Smart Object
s and the programs within the
    FactoryTalk Smart Object
    s.
  • Pane bar
. The Pane bar is used to toggle the visibility of panes at specific locations in the user interface. View panes on the left, right, or bottom of the interface.
  • Toolbar
. The Toolbar contains icons for various functions such as opening the Devices list, saving changes to the local repository, transferring commits from the local repository to the remote repository, and updating the local repository of the shared project from the remote repository.
  • Properties pane
. This pane appears on the right side of the interface by default. It displays the properties of the selected element.
  • Toolbox
. The toolbox is also located on the right side of the interface. It contains the instructions that are added to a ladder diagram or an Add-on Instruction.
  • Output pane
. This pane appears at the bottom of the interface. It displays error, warning, and information messages for the routines in your project.
  • Code Editor
. Use the Code Editor to edit the code of a
    FactoryTalk Smart Object
, Add-on Instruction, program, routine, and other interface components.
TIP: Customize the
FactoryTalk Design Studio
user interface to your preference. The display and positions of panes are retained after you exit the application.
