Use drag-and-drop to copy items in the Logical Organizer
You can use drag-and-drop operations in the Logical Organizer to copy (duplicate) items.
The following items allow drag and drop in the Logical Organizer:
- Programs and folders from one Logix Designer project to a different project in a different copy of the Logix Designer application.
The following items do not support drag-and-drop in the Logical Organizer:
- All plain folders (the root and theLogic and Tagsfolders)
- Programs parameters and local tags
The following table shows which items you can drag to which targets.

This enables you to create a logical model that is organized in terms of procedures, objects, functions, equipment, or other more natural terms and concepts. You can then use drag-and-drop to apply this logical model to theController Organizer.
TIP:
If FactoryTalk Security is enabled, FactoryTalk Security permissions are required to create and delete items in the
Controller Organizer
and the Logical Organizer
.These are the restrictions:
- You cannot drag-and-drop a Safety item when in Safety Lock. If you select multiple items, and any of them is a Safety item, you cannot drag-and-drop any of the selected items in Safety Lock.
- You cannot drag-and-drop an item (or an item with descendant items) if doing so exceeds the limit of 15 hierarchy levels, or exceeds the child program limit of 1,000 at the target item.
- You cannot drag-and-drop the root (highest) folder or theLogic and Tagsfolder.
- You cannot insert programs or folders between targets that are ordered alphabetically, such as the children of the root folder.
- You cannot use drag-and-drop operations if the system is in Hard Run or has a major fault.
