Configure the DHCP

Use the
DHCP
view to configure the dynamic host configuration protocol for the switch.
IMPORTANT:
Use caution with automatic IP address assignment when wiring a device level ring (DLR) with symmetric devices. The controller cannot detect incorrect IP addresses of identical devices in the wrong position
To make sure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) persistence work correctly, follow these application rules:
  • Every device in an IP-based network must have a unique IP address. DHCP assigns IP address information from a pool of available addresses to newly connected devices (DHCP clients) in the network. If a device leaves and then rejoins the network, the device receives the next available IP address, which can or cannot be the same address that it had before.
  • The switch can be set to operate as a DHCP server to provide DHCP persistence. With DHCP persistence, you can assign a specific IP address to each port to make sure that a device that is attached to a specific port receives the same IP address. This feature works with only one device that is connected to each port configured for DHCP persistence. For Stratix 8000/8300 switches, the DHCP server also serves addresses to BOOTP clients.
Prerequisites
  • The switch must be online and communicating.
  • The switch must be operating on a ring network.
To configure the DHCP
  1. On the tab for the device, expand
    Device Level Ring
    , and then expand
    Ring X
    .
  2. Select
    DHCP
    .
  3. In the
    Ring X - DHCP
view, fill in the parameters as needed.
  4. Select
    OK
    to finalize the changes.
