Private Network without a domain or Domain Name Server (DNS)

CA signed certificates require the use of fully qualified domain names. In cases where there is no domain or there is no domain name server there are two options. The first and best option is to use hosts files instead to map the IP addresses to qualified host names. The second is to use self-signed certificates instead of CA signed certificates.
